This is just a heads up on what is going on with our club these days. I am currently attempting to turn it into a nonprofit club, which will be run by the officers. The contact person from now on is Tim Kellogg- tkellogg@stl-inc.com. Coaches giving lessons include Bob Jones, Tim Kellogg, Terry Groff, & Paul Craig. They are putting a team of coaches together to travel to a church in Corpus to teach lessons to students that are mostly from the one school that deals with GT kids (gifted & talented). We currently are on Corpus Christi's list of programs that give alternative credit for PE and are a part of a home school program which also awards students PE credit. Our website has been down a while, but is back up again as coastalbendfencing.com. It needs much updating... I'll post more as we continue to change. We still meet in Robstown on Thursday nights from 7-10 pm at Coastal Gymnastics Academy at 415 E Main.

Here is the latest... We are now officially crossing the HWY 77 border and fencing in the Gulf Coast Division on Wednesday nights at All Saint's Episcopal Church in Corpus Christi located at 3026 South Staples on Wednesday nights from 6-7pm. This class is specifically for children. Anyone interested in this should either email Tim at the previously mentioned email address or me at Sabrebobcat@aol.com. We are still fencing in Robstown on Thursday nights, too.

Captain, I am sure you are refering to the website. LOL! Carlos, the fellow that designed the site really liked that pic. Not a bad one at that, but I still do not fence epee; however, some of my fencers do and tall Paul is getting pretty good at it these days.

After a 6 month sabbatical, I'm back. I have started another website since our old webmaster has not been keeping up with the updates. Our new one is at : coastalbendfencingsociety.2itb.com/. Since I just started it tonight, it is still a bit rough... Our kids class in Corpus has grown so much we plan to start a waiting list. More later.

Since I had to be in the next county over for court, I packed my gear and seized upon the opportunity to swing by CBFS Thursday night to play.
They let me play king of the hill in sabre. An entire tournament worth of sabre... Oh, I will hurt in the morning! But it was great fun getting to fence your entire club! Thanks for the hospitality!
One request though, Tim. When you tell one of the itty-bitty kids that don't come up to my waist to hit me in the head. Please specify which one!

Hi, We are moving to the mcallen/edinburgh area next fall. I have a 12 year old who has been fencing for three years. Are there any clubs in the area or are the closest in Corpus Christi. Thanks!

While Nemo may be staying away, there seems to be others that are interested in fencing in Corpus Christi now. According to my daughter, Megan, the A&M CC recreation center is going to start offering fencing. I will update information as I learn more.

The contact phone number for Tim no longer works either. If your interested in fencing in Corpus, please contact Grace at Saberbobcat@aol.com. I don't really know how I can help you at this point, but I'm working on it right now.

So how is the Coastal Bend Fencing Society doing these days?

From what I understand, the club in Robstown has dwindled down to Tim & his son. The location is simply not ideal. This was true from the beginning, but the rent is cheap and that is the only reason we have been able to offer fencing classes for so long (8 years now). However, there is still a children's branch in Corpus a church that Tim teaches that had a number of fencers last year. I am sure he will continue that this year. I injured my calve about 4 years ago and just have not been the same. That coupled with lots of other issues have kept me from being actively involved except updating the website information when changes are given to me.

A & M Corpus Christi is opening a new rec center this year. An application for fencing is going to be turned in- I believe this week. It sounds like it will not actually be added until next semester according to Megan. We will be visiting with them about donating equipment and free refereeing/ coaching in the next week or so... This might be the break we have needed all this long time. Megan says the center is absolutely gorgeous- that it has the capability to host an enormous tournament... We shall see what transpires.

Meanwhile the kids club in Corpus is still active at the church. I'm not sure if the club will resume fencing at CGA in Robstown since there are other possibilities going on right now. For more information contact Tim at 361-443-4349 or Marcus at 361-443-4296. Tim's email address is also tj2kellogg@aim.com.

I believe Del Mar College had fencing years ago. That might be another place to get interest moving.

Am a veteran fencer wanting to get back into action. Have communicated with Tim. He didn't know of anything was in the works at the end of the summer. If anyone hears anything please let us know. Thanks!
Here's hoping fencing in Corpus was not just a "fleche" in the pan!

Although we had a fencing club in Robstown for about 8 years, the only fencing in the area now is at A&M in Corpus Christi. JJ is the dedicated President of the fencing club there and has done a fine job getting things started. To fence there, I went to the Dugan Sports Rec Center and got a sports rec pass and then went to the Sanddollar Store and got a Sanddollar (ID) all of which cost about $100. Since I am helping coach these kids, I am not sure if this is available to other nonstudents, but I am pretty sure it is. I will find out and post this for other folks interested in fencing that live in the Corpus Christi area. It would be very good for these kids to have experienced fencers to fence and learn from. Fencers meet from 8-9:30 pm on Wednesday nights and 1-2:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday afternoons upstairs. They have one complete electric strip. All learned foil and most are currently learning saber. A few want to learn epee. All are eager.
