Are there classes in Bryan/College station for younger fencers. We are looking at possible move but I can't find anything on fencing other than the A&M club. Can a non-university person fence at A&M and compete in USFA tournaments?
Any information would be very helpful.
Thanks! Stacia

There are on-going discussions involving starting a club in the BCS area. If you will have some kind of university affiliation (i.e. student/faculty/staff), you can get family memberships to the Student Rec Center and the kids can fence with the club then, I think. The parent may need to be present. I'll check at practice tonight.

Dan,
If you are looking to expand a club in College Station and want to talk, email me sometimes with your information, katyblades@sbcglobal.net. I will be happy to help you. We are growing, and will be a large club in a year or two. There is room in Houston area for 5 more large clubs minimum, and you have a great market in College Station.

As the secretary/contact person for the TAMU club for the past two years, I can tell you that every year I got four or five emails from people like yourself, interested in fencing. In theory, without a University affiliation you could purchase membership to the building in which we practice (cheaper than a regular rec membership, but price undetermined as no one ever actually tried to do it). However you would also have to pay TAMU Fencing Club membership . And, if your "younger fencer" is not roughly adult-sized you would probably have to scrape together some child-sized equipment.

Dan have you ever considered creating another club in the CS/Bryan area just for young fencers? I know there are middle/high schools in the area that could use fencing clubs too, and even younger children could just join that club. Isn't Augie busy enough with his club and trying to get schools in Katy more involved with the fencing community? I mean Mauro could always help you get started, and some of the Aggies could take certain days and volunteer as coaches. Just an idea.

My daughter has been interested in NO sport ever, but decided that she thinks it would be cool to learn to fence. She is going into 9th grade...5'8"...so no need for children's equipment. We haven't seen anything for a fencing club at Bryan High so far. Her Dad works with Texas A&M libraries...so would that enable her to get involved with the A&M club? erinire_99@yahoo.com for any information you might have thanks!!
