Given I haven't had a chance to get any fencing in since UT closed down after the first week in December, I'm a bit rusty and need to get back in practice for the Rose, which is coming up soon. When will ATAC be practicing, as the only place I can think of around Austin that will have sabre before then?

Some of us never quit. We were even open on Boxing Day!
This week it's Monday, January 2 and Wednesday, January 4, 2006 from 7:00 to 10:00ish P.M. in the second floor gym at Jowers. The Epee is mostly on Mondays and the Sabre is mostly on Wednesday nights, but I'm sure you can get in a few bouts either night.
See you there!

d**n. It never occurred to me someone would schedule practice over the Rose Bowl. I'm afraid I won't be making it.

We wondered why they put the game at the same time as our practice.
Coach Moreau said he'd bring in a TV.

We had over 40 fencers tonight fencing all three weapons. A very good turnout. UT brought their people. And the Mexican Cadets were here from Jalisco. They'll be here tomorrow so we'll be open and have practice at 7:30 Thursday (8/24).

Kyle,
Remember when you, Oscar, Salem and I would scrape the state to put together 8 - 10 working strips? A 10 strip tournament was good event. Now ATAC has that many in the club. Mauro, Louise and Andrey have that many and more, and even I have 7 set up permanently. I think in the Gulf Coast Division we could stretch and hold a 40 strip event easily with backups. I have the good boxes, but in the club I have found that bungee systems work better with the number of kids I have. They step on the ends and the Uhlman floor cables don't like it. If you look at my Katy Blades Y12 team tournament I have 13 signed up and I have committments from 7+ more and won't have but a 1/3 of my Youth 12 fencers participating. Times have changed.

Yes, I do remember that, Augie! All too well! All I can say is NEVER, EVER, AGAIN!!![/i]
Those of us who remember those days will insure it will never be that way again! Here's to the better future we adults make to ensure that our fencers do not have to sleep on floors and do not eat PB&J or Ramen and Ketchup our coach had to buy out of his own pocket.
Here's to the good old (bad old) days! May they never return!

We are all working together to make certain that it does not. We need many healthy clubs to have fencing a success. What has happened is that we have branched out and made many good clubs in the state.
May the coaches never have to eat PB or ketchup packets again also.
See you Saturday. I wish I was back to full speed but I tore several things loose at the divisionals in April and the trainer reached over and said meniscus (sp?) or scar tissue. I said after the two surgeries I have had that if it was scar tissue then I will just cause more scar tissue by having another surgery. That is why I did not fence at Nationals. I am probably 75 - 80%.

There will be no fencing at Jowers until next Wednesday, August 29 or Thursday, August 30, 2007. The upper gym has been repainted and the floors are currently being worked on. They are being sanded, lines re-painted, and then to be sealed.
