Below is an excerpt from my original post about the Four Winds Renaissance Faire. The excerpt below strictly deals with the competitive jousts.

I think this is a good thread to start. I began jousting around ten years ago with Dustin Stephens, but have been seriously jousting for only the past six months. I prefer the actual competitive nature of these jousts because it is in fact a real sport. It was Marylands official state sport for hundreds of years. Just like fencing (of which I used to compete in colligiate) it takes quite a bit of endurance, skill, and control. I look forward to hearing back from everyone on his page about competitve jousting. Cheers!

So, do we know who won which round robins on which days, so far?

Alright, I have consulted Ye Official Scoring Book O' Justice that Sir Dorian Has been using to keep a very organized collection of scores from each weekend/day/time of day/event.
I'll post what these numbers mean here, then post the scores from the first weekend in a separate post, then the second weekend in another. This should keep things all nice and organized, and will make more sense I think afterward.
But on to business:
There are two separate running Tournaments technically... The Games, and the Tilt. Both tournaments are being held twice per day on the weekends of the faire, for a grand total of four jousts per weekend. The Games are as Follows:
*All games are ridden at a Canter
Rings - The knight tries to lance as many 3" Steel rings out of four as possible while riding down the list. Two in one direction, then two in the other. The knight is scored by how many rings they got, and the highest number wins the event, and earns a point.
Quintain - The knight rides at a contraption with a shield on one side and a counterweight on the other. After hitting it with a lance, the knight is scored by how many rotations the quintain makes, to the nearest 1/4th. The most rotations wins the event, and earns the winning knight a point.
Spear - The knight rides past a bale of hay, upon which is mounted a 3" Steel ring. As they pass, they throw a spear, attempting to stick it inside the ring. Order of precedence is as follows: Inside the ring, Outside and touching the ring, and number of inches from the ring thereafter. The closes spear wins the match and earns a point.
Saracens Head - The knight rides down the list attempting to stab or chop 2 cabbages sitting on the center list rail. 2 points are awarded for a stab, 1 point for a chop. For the stab to count, the cabbage must remain on the sword for a period of time, at the discretion of the marshals. The most points earned after the event earns a point for the game.
A tie in any of the games may result in a tie breaker run, or in splitting the point, at the discretion of the marshals.
The Tilt:
This is the main event that many people come to associate as the joust itself. Two knights, mounted and armored, holding shields and lances, ride toward one another on either side of the list rail attempting to hit the shield of their opponent with the tip of their lance. Generally, three passes are made. Flags are earned as follows:
Clean Strike vs Miss - 1 Flag to Clean Strike Clean Strike vs Glancing Blow - 1 Flag to clean strike Clean strike vs clean strike - 1 Flag to each Glancing blow vs glancing blow - 1 flag to each Glancing blow vs miss - 1 Flag to glancing blow.
Knights are disqualified from the current round if their lance strike the opposing horse or knight without first making contact with their shield.
A running tally of flags earned is kept, and the most flags at the end of the event is declared the victor for that joust.

Just as well you didn't try then. The hazards of attempting precise work on horback in the rain...
No, there's always another weekend and, like Longblade said, be thankful for the rain. I may be up that way this next weekend and will try to catch one of the jousts.

From the previous ranking two weeks ago, Martel looks like Superman.
Does the person playing him compete elsewhere?
I agree with fox, it is just as well no one tried anything silly in the rain.

Sir Aramis - David Brown (Four Winds) Sir Dustin DeGray - Dustin Stephens (Four Winds) Countess DeWinter - Leah Thompson (Four Winds) Sir Roland Martel - Dusty Martel (Argent Spur) Lady Isabella - Bobbie Patterson (Argent Spur) Sir Stefan Von Ziegler <clearly the awesomest>- Steve Martel (Argent Spur)
As far as what type of jousting, the event would be classified as Light, due to targeting the shield only, although the equipment used (Solid lances instead of breakaway) warrants more protection than normally used in such an event.

This past weekend was exciteing yet scary.Sir Stephan was out due to illness,Sir Dustin is bruised and has a mild concussion after his horse rolled on him,Sir Aramis recieved a injury as well. However Sir Dustin was back for the evening joust even supriseing everyone when his horse ran into the joust field tower after coming off the list rail. Most of our knights will be back in action this saturday. Sir Roland and his mount Thor swept the morning joust and almost took the evening joust. Sir Stephan Von Ziegler should be back with us next week and he will be able to update the scores.

I saw this on another site, also referring to the 4 winds joust this weekend. Now I'm curious: Ah...yes...I was riding our Arab at that time and he decided to do a little dance between the list and counterlist rails. End result, I knocked over a counterlist post with my face. Hooray Armor...

There will be an open tournament on July 1 & 2 at the Four Winds Faire grounds. There will be an entry fee for the tournament, and cash prizes in several categories. There will also be food and drink, entertainment, and vendors. It promises to be a cool weekend... in that midsummer sorta way. Spread the word and check the four winds website for more info. www.fourwindsfaire.com/

An "open tournament"? In the context of competitive jousting, what does that mean?
What is required if someone wanted to compete (and NO, I am NOT consider it).
Just curious...

Open Joust, meaning anyone who wishes to compete may do so. Providing of course, that they and their equipment meet the safety standards of the event in question. I specify this because there are tournaments out there that are by invitation only. At the moment, I believe the last estimate was about 15 to 20 participants interested.
