Just FWIW, I was advised today that the TAAF Games of Texas (which includes Fencing) will be held in Corpus Christi in the summers of 2012 & 2013. (One of the City of Corpus Christi contacts just went over the basics with a Gulf Coast Division officer and with the new co-ordinator of the fencing events... so details are still sketchy.)
Hopefully this will boost fencing's profile in Corpus Christi when it happens.

Thanks for sharing, Schlager! I can not wait to tell the college kids. It will give them something fun to look forward to- a real shot in the arm.

Just FWIW, since I am being reminded to begin working on a tournament scheduled for the last weekend of July 2012 (!) in Corpus Christi (I guess some folks don't want to wait until the last minute), I went ahead and posted some basic fencing-in-the-area stuff on two local fora based in Corpus Christi. One is operated by Channel 6. The other appears to be more generic, simply titled the [link= icestormspond.yuku.com/topic/6278]Corpus Christi Sports[/link] forum. Neither one gets particularly busy, but what the heck.

We also now have a second timing box. However, one of our old blue Uhlman reels is not working. Does anyone know the closest place I can send it off to to get it fixed??? Once it's fixed, we will finally have two electric strips!!!!

What is the problem with the Uhlman? The most common seems problem I see is a failure to retract. We have some very good armorers here in Houston, but I would not want to "volunteer them" in their own absence.
Put down what is wrong and I will steer some of them this way.

A touch does not register when that reel is used. It retracts perfectly. I know is the reel because we exchanged it with one of my Faveros and touches were registered.

Longblade, I recruited enough today, that we could make a team. Now we have see about logistics of transportation and talk with the sports rec about it. Hang in there. It MIGHT just work out. I'm going to take off work this week and go see the sports rec folks.

I forgot to mention that we NOW have one of the full gyms downstairs to fence in on Saturdays and Sundays. Certainly you can tell that by the pictures. We also have two nice sized lockers in the equipment room upstairs. It would be absolutely wonderful if the fencing portion of the Games of Texas could be held in the two gyms of their rec center. When are the Games of Texas going to be held? When I know that, I can ask. The President (Ashtyn) finally filled out the form to become a USFA club this weekend!
