I thought I'd start this thread for this year's summer nationals/National Fencing Championships. Later as folks go off to attend, they may post any news, anecdotes or observations. For now I'll quote this from the USFA newsletter: ========================================== Live Webcasting at Summer NationalsU.S. Fencing is happy to announce that the we will be webcasting LIVE from the Georgia World Congress Center Hall B5 on Wednesday, July 7. Bookmark: usfencing.org/live and check it out next Wednesday. (it's not live yet, but that's where it will be!)

A few observations/questions...
A fine bout by Igoe, not that sabre's my best subject... A GREAT comeback from Morehouse. He climbed out of a pretty deep hole... Gotta love finals that get to La Belle... Someone in the background muttering something about, "It's all fun and games until somebody dies." WTF?..... Wasn't that Stusinski as referee? (I guess a little bit of domestic violence doesn't get you yanked from the referee cadre)....

Stusinski indeed reffed that bout. Did a fine job of it too, especially considering the drama after the previous bout when a fencer allegedly punched the mask off Ben Igoe. Didn't see that myself, but showed up as it was being discussed after. Blackcard was eventually given and much angst was felt by all. I'd guess that incident could be the basis of theone comment.

For those sending PMs, sorry, but until the USFA starts posting results I can't separate results for the individual division boards. I'll start posting as soon as I can access bulk results.

I see results have started re-appearing on the USFA site. Sorry for my absence but Thursdays are my loooong day (work + fence at two different clubs in the evening). I'll get back to results this evening when I get home from work. In the meantime, here is the above mentioned Homer vs Igoe semi-final in Div 1 Men's Sabre that resulted in Homer's black card. It was apparently issued after the actual bout, since that DE is fenced to Igoe's 15th touch.

Oh, man. He clocked Igoe! I guess it took the FOC a while to figure out whether or not it was intentional?

Yeah, Homer left the strip at that point and much discussion was had involving various coaches and referees. Eventually, a couple teammates retrieved Homer and he saluted, shook hands and signed the score sheet. Discussions continued and cumulated with Tass handing a blackcard to the referee and standing there until the ref gave it to Homer before taking it back. Good times.

I've added such of Wednesdays results as are available from the USFA. I'll check again tomorrow morning and through the weekend. (The silly part of it all is knowing Matt D. is in Atlanta as an armorer and he'd be happy to spend a couple of hours each night posting these scans if only the USFA would let him).

Dan Perhaps not the best way to have handled the situation. I can't help but feel that there are events that you either address at the moment or move on, not agonize over and rehash well after the bout is over.
