The San Antonio Fencing Center will host a Seminar for Coaching Seated/Wheelchair Fencing on Nov 20,21.
The seminar is open to all interested and is free of charge. The seminar is a prototype for the USFCA Wheelchair Coaching Certification Program.

Seated/Wheelchair Fencing
A Seminar of Coaching Training
As part of a grant from the US Olympic Committee, and in partnership between the San Antonio Fencing Center and the San Antonio Sports Foundation, we are please to announce an intensive coaching training seminar for Seated/Wheelchair Fencing.
Presenting the Seminar will be Gary van der Wege, Prevot, six-time US National Wheelchair Champion (all 3 weapons), Paralympian and member of the US World Team. Gary was at one time ranked 8th in the World, and is now head coach at the San Antonio Fencing Center. Gary is authoring the coaching manual to be distributed at the seminar.
Also presenting will be Jerry Benson, Master, former US Paralympic Team Coach in Sydney and Athens, and head coach for the Redlands Fencing Center in Oklahoma City.
Both presenters are also USA Fencing, Certified Referee Instructors.
This seminar shall be a pilot program for the USFCA Seated/Wheelchair Coaching Certification program (pending approval). Participants may be offered the opportunity to seek certification as Seated/Wheelchair Coaches upon completion of the seminar.
The seminar is open to all interested participants and is offered free of charge. Those wishing to seek certification, must be members of the USFCA. Participants should be prepared to give and receive seated lessons. Students will be both able-bodied and actual wheelchair fencers. Bouting and officiating is optional but recommended.
