The following is from some emails that went back and forth between my wife and a friend:
Well, got a call from Beth Ward- Becca's beloved coach Jacek is getting the boot by Oregon Fencing Alliance for some reason-and all the while they should have been working on his visa, they weren't. He's in danger of deportation unless he gets a job. He has a wife and three kids. The wife can't work because of the visa issue.
We are in desperate need of a saber coach in this area.
He also has feelers out in NJ and the NE.

Becca Ward's coach?
Salle Mauro and BCFA have been the traditional sabre clubs in the Gulf Coast Division. I'd send an email to Mauro and/or Louise.

Most sabre fencing in South Texas seems to come out of Salle Pouj. You might shoot them a line.

Paul Schimmelman (sp) from UT is the best saber coach in the state as far as I am concerned. Megan and I used to commute to San Marcos and Austin on occasion to get lessons from him.

We are in desperate need of a saber coach in this area. [/b][/quote] Am I thin skinned, or is that just a little insulting? Y'all do realize I coach the weapon, right? I realize I haven't produced an Olympian yet, nor do I have an accent, but I'm a pretty good saber coach. Dan

An understandable reaction, but my guess is no insult was intended by the author. Certainly none was intended by me. True, you do teach sabre. So does Joe Wysocki. To a lesser degree (as in, on occasion), so does Damian Berntsen. There are few others who have taught sabre from time to time, never as their core weapon.
If you look at it by comparison with how very many people in our division teach foil and/or epee, sabre is seriously under-represented (teaching-wise) in the Gulf Coast Division.

With the exception of the North Texas Division, most of Texas is under-supplied with sabre coaches. OTOH, perhaps Dan could help matters by developing an accent.

Dan, too bad we do not live closer. I'd get the kids and me over to get lessons. I mentioned Paul because we've had lessons with him. I also am a saber coach. I've taken two groups of kids to JOs, so I don't think I'm shabby at it. However, I don't take offense because I don't know as much as I wished I did. Hover, I love saber and will always support all the coaches and fencers involved in it in Texas.

Furthermore, I agree with Joe that there are not near enough saber coaches in Texas.
