I received the following from the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority. It is seeking volunteers for the 2012 Amateur Athletic Union's Junior Olympics, which will be held in Houston.
No, fencing is NOT part of the AAU Junior Olympics. Why? Because fencing left the AAU way back in the 19th Century!
Be that as it may, this is a very worthwhile event to volunteer for and we should also show support for the HC-HSA's work to bring national sporting events to Houston.============================================================================= The AAU Junior Olympic Games are 3 weeks away and we still have several shifts to fill. Sign up and volunteer to make this the best national youth event Houston has ever hosted! Still need volunteers for these venues: Convention Center – 54 shiftsPearland Natatorium – 115 shiftsTurner Stadium – 117 shiftsDon’t forget we will start recruiting volunteers in September for the 2013 NBA All Star Game. Volunteers for the Junior Olympic Games will get first priority to register. Please let me know if you have any questions. Click here to register! It's been a couple of years, but I used to volunteer at their events from time to time. I don't know if it still holds true, but we were compensated with Astros tickets!
They were good seats, too!
