KPRC Channel 2 is covering local Olympic sports to tie into their Olympic coverage. Kyle Montgomery, their new sports anchor, did a spot on the Wilson twins and fencing on the 6:00 news tonight.
I was very nervous about the whole thing but it was a very flattering piece. Kyle was very fun to work with because he thinks fencing is "a very cool sport" (and that's coming from a man who hangs out with the Texans).
If you missed the spot, it is not featured on the KPRC Local 2 website, but I am expecting to receive a DVD of it and will post it on YouTube and provide a link here later.
Kyle Montgomery did mention the fencing spot on his facebook page. So, if you happened to see the spot (or even if you didn't), please take the time to login to the KPRC Local 2 Kyle Montgomery facebook page and let Kyle know the fencing community appreciates his interest in the sport and his efforts to give it exposure on prime time local news. I spoke to someone just tonight that said their kid loved fencing and they would have become involved in the sport much earlier if they had just known it existed in Houston. So, please give Kyle a "like" for giving our community this exposure.
And, since I'm posting to a community fencing board, I sincerely thank the many fencers across this community who have and continue to be such a positive influence on my boys. A wide section of the Houston fencing community has been instrumental in steering these energetic boys along the fencing path and the difficult path of growing up. It is because of our great community that they love fencing so much. And it is because you have freely shared your love of fencing and helped my boys along the way that I love this community so much.
My boys are no different than the many other young competitive fencers that are coming out of Houston -- and certainly less deserving of attention than many many other young Houston fencers. They just happened to get some attention lately. I think though that this is a very good thing for the entire community and I am looking forward to seeing other fencers in the news as well.
Sincerely, Jeanne Wilson
