Hello everyone.
This is Daniel here, as there is a general agreement for the new rotation to be picked up from where the old rotation left off, that puts Trinity as the first to host the tournament. I am working with 4 different places at the moment to ensure we can host it.
Couple things I need or need to announce: 1) All Clubs should have an officer stay after the first tournament to finalize the new rotation scheme. 2) I need as much advice how many referees we should have and average payments as I can get. (We have a few who are from SA, so we wont have to pay for room at least) 3) Dates: I can't seem to find the dates we want each tournament by. I need the ~date for the first tournament asap 4) As with the new arrangement with foil bibs- We should have a small meeting at the start to address if we want to follow this standard. (The vote will likely be no, but to stick to our rules we should all agree on it first)
Updates to come

Unless the SWIFA bylaws were modified after 2011, Article VIII, Section I should be relevant here: swifa.net/club/2011%20SWIFA%20Bylaws.htmThis would put us at having SWIFA 1 either September 29th, or September 22nd, or October 6th. You guys will have to find out what events are going on in the South Texas Division, because it will be extremely important not to plan over a SoTX division tournament. (That way, you can get local referees and save $$$). I would say that A&M would like it very very very very very much if you didn't plan it on October 6th, but you can see from the Gulf Coast Division Calendar that you're going to be stepping on toes either way: clfc.2itb.com/Other than that, I don't know nothin' 'bout hostin' no tourneys.

I have nothing to do regarding SWIFA, however with regard to Saturday, September 29th, that is the date in the Gulf Coast Division for the Jean Laffite Classic. As the president of that club allow me to let any SWIFA scheduling on top of it "off the hook" as far as "stepping on our toes."
The Jean Laffite Classic is an all-U tournament. No As, Bs, Cs, Ds, or Es allowed. It is a fairly small affair, primarily drawing on developmental referees (with a few exceptions) for our staff.
If you need the better-ranked referees, I don't see a conflict. As well, I don't see a lot of collegiate fencers from UT, Baylor, SMU etc driving all the way to Galveston for our little tournament (although we give out pretty good-sized trophy cups to our first place winners).
If someone needs that date for a SWIFA, I know we won't be holding any grudges.

Hey, guys/gals, this is Grace Buchanan, your new treasurer for 2012- 2013. I do not have contacts for each university in order for me to send out invoices for this year's dues. We need money to run SWIFA I, and I know that It probably takes a little time to request the funding from your school. Thus, this needs to be done ASAP. PLEASE email me your contact information. I would be glad to send your invoices via email or snail mail. Just let me know when you send the contact information to me. Send this information to Saberbobcat@aol.com with the subject line as CONTACT. I get LOADS of spam EVERY DAY, and most new stuff goes into my spam file. If you use CONTACT as the subject line, I will recognize this as a business email rather than spam. As soon as I get the contact info from you, I will send you an invoice. THANKS & welcome to the 2012-13 SWIFA year!!!!

I just emailed out invoices for dues for the SWIFA 2012-2013 fencing season. I had contacts for the following universities: TAMUCC, U of H, Baylor, Texas Tech, UTSA, TAMU, TX State, UNT, and Trinity. If you are associated with those schools, and did not get the invoice for some reason, let me know ASAP. I still need contacts for UT Austin, Rice, San Antonio College, UT Dallas, UT Arlington, and San Antonio College. If anyone has an email contact for those schools, I would greatly appreciate it if you would email it to me at swifatreasure@gmail.com or saberbobcat@aol.com. Thanks a million & I look forward to this fencing season!

September 29 and 30 is the 37th Bobcat Open at Texas State.
A SWIFA competition cannot be held on the same weekend as another Member Team's tournament.

September 29 and 30 is the 37th Bobcat Open at Texas State. A SWIFA competition cannot be held on the same weekend as another Member Team's tournament. If that is the case (I guess I must not have read the bylaws carefully enough, because I did not see that...), then SWIFA 1 MUST be held September 22nd. Sept 29th is Bobcat (Texas State), and October 6th is Heavy Metal (TAMU). As far as I know, there are other tournaments on September 22nd, but none of which are hosted by any of the member teams. Well...that solves at least 1/2 of the problem...

Just sent this email out: "Hey all, this is Daniel from Trinity. To say it simple, I will be sucking up my pride and say we will not be having SWIFA 1 on Sept. 22nd, (unless we absolutely must). This has been decided because: 1) We currently have only 4 referees who have not been taken for that weekend that we can find. 2) The lateness in dues will make payment more delayed, and a later SWIFA date will allow more time for more dues to be paid. 3) Schools will have trouble organizing trips for SWIFA 1 that early (paperwork, hotels, ext) 4) October 20th has shown to be a very promising date and that will not have any of the issues above.
I am waiting on confirmation from a few people to gain approval for October 20th from SWIFA's side, but it seems like the best possible day, and that the sooner we can confirm that tournament the only problem we will have left will be organizing SWIFA 2. To help I am going to send out the old rotation list (as the new one will be based off that one) and ask that those clubs who are lined up with potential to host contact me soon. I am also working on a SWIFA guide for all Schools to be able to use to host tournaments, which will include average prices for budgeting, a list of helpful contacts (who willingly would go on it), how to find referees, and other things needed to host a tournament.
Some have mentioned that SWIFA this year has not looked better than last year. I would like to remind everyone that the new rotation scheme has not been finalized, and I encourage people adding input on the forum. Also, hopefully the guide will help others prepare better than I have. Finally, as I myself hold a position in SWIFA, this first tournament has fewer people working on it than others, and hopefully subsequent tournaments will run better as more people will be working on it and more balances will exist.
I apologize for the confusion for this first SWIFA tournament, but should I gain approval of the other SWIFA officers than there shall be no more problems and the entire tournament will be ready weeks in advance, leaving room to organize the next tournament. I take the blame for the current troubles and simply ask that people be patient, so that we may clear all issues up instead of trying to fit everything in a tight schedule.
Here is the current rotation list (due returns not considered). If you are close to the top, or want to volunteer, try to send me an email and we will start organizing SWIFA 2 asap. I would prefer for the clubs nearest to the top to email me asap, as even in the new rotation method, the next school inline will have priority. Lastly, as the majority of dues come in, I will update the rotation list so that schools can know where they are on the list. (list found based off last year's list, posted in the forum)
Trinity Sam Houston State U UT – Dallas U of H UNT Texas A & M UTSA UT Rice Texas State Baylor Texas Tech San Antonio College
Sincerely, Daniel Johnson"

October 20 is a clear date. Only a novice tourney in Houston that weekend. This also gives the teams time to make arrangments. If you want my blessing, you've got it.
