Good post, JEC.
Sure are a lot of familiar names.
Any Kubik vs. Parkins bout is worth a look.
Hurme vs. Trapani... sweet.

Unfortunately, Mark Kubik who had silver medal in the Midwest championships did not qualified (max. of 2 fencers per weapon/gender per college). Otherwise, it also would have been great to see Kubik vs Kubik!
The way cadet and junior fencing continues to bloom in the 3 Texas divisions, we expect the same degree of dominance in Epee and Foil.
Sorry, Dan. I did not recognize her name. My mistake. Congrats to Salle Mauro for Parkins and her.

At FNet, I got some criticism about my post
]I just don' get what the big deal is about this.
This is my reply:
I disagree. The issue is that it tells you something about the state of development of different regions in the country. For decades, elite fencing was limited to few places such as NYC. The reason for the presence of multiple fencers from one region is related to the developmental efforts from coaches, circuit organizers (i.e.: RYCs), etc. Highlighting specific regions for a given weapon might make you examine what developmental efforts were made successfully 5-10 years earlier at that location. That is a lesson to learn from.
Edit: corrections

No apology necessary, I just wanted to give props to someone I know there who'd been missed.
In relation to the regional post, I'd be more interested in seeing if the number of foreign fencers has dropped over the years due to a possible increase in the the overall depth of American youth fencing.

Dan A very intriguing thought. Has the number of foreign fencers dropped? I confess I have not kept up.

I do not know. It is a lot of work to do that. You will need to get the roster of each fencing college team that attended the NCAA tournament each year.

I'd imagine the NCAA keeps up with that kind of thing....

Heh, figures. Really though, I've never been a fan of the NCAA. It seems primarily interested in protecting revenue generation for the universities while paying lip-service to some kind of academic standards.
