Man oh man. Is anyone else having problems with it? I haven't been able to access it for two days.

Actually, I believe I read where there would be some sporadic downtime coming up on that site in order for Craig to make some upgrades.
Give it to mid-week and all will likely be well again.

Well, it's been down for longer than "sporadic." Hope it'll be up sometime again.

I emailed Craig on Monday. He said that they were victims of a DDoS attack, and that they were trying to restore the site through backups, etc. He thought on Monday morning that he would have the site up by Monday night, but that obviously didn't happen. Living without fencing.net isn't fun. I actually found this forum because I was trying to see if anyone had more recent news than I had.

Well, thanks for bringing the news to us. I guess we'll just have to talk a little harder here for now. Yesterday www.fencing.net was redirecting to the shop.fencing.net store, but right now the redirect appears off. shop.fencing.net still comes up.

Okay, I have to ask. what is a DDoS? Dungeons, dragons? Deadly Demons on Server? Sorry, but I can barely keep my head above water in the computer world...trying desperately to stay with it so I won't be like my mom...can't run a computer to save her life, even though she's smart enough. Whatever-sorry F.net is down.

Wow. I was wondering what had happened! I'm here to find the other f.netters floating around in metaphorical lifeboats after the site went down. Here's to hoping that it gets back up soon with as little strife for Craig as possible!
And just FYI, I was born in Texas, so I sort of (kind of) have an excuse to post here. ;D

Hey man, I'm with you.
On the upside, in the past week I've probably seen every fencing video YouTube has to offer.
Edit: It gave me a chance to find this dashing (yet severely outmatched) fencer on the right.

Hey, folks. This is Mainefencer. I cannot log in to TGCFF now, for some reason, so I am posting as a guest. Here is the latest from fnet.: Fencing.Net - Content and Forums Update Late last week the hosting provider that housed the fencing.net news and forums was hit with a massive hacking and DDoS attack that brought down their servers. They have been working to restore all files from backups and have run into some difficulties. We expect the forums and fencing.net news site to be back up and running soon using the onsite backups so that no data will be lost. If we have to run from an earlier backup we will and will work to update all of the content as soon as we can. Thank you for your continued support and patience. - Craig This is taken directly from the shopping page at fnet. Hope this helps! By the way...when I went to the gym this morning at 3:15, it was 28 degrees. What's it like down there?

mainefencer:
Sorry you had trouble. There should be a default that will allow you to receive a password by email. Thanks for the updates. There are quite a few Fencing Net regulars here and we all miss it.
restlesscheese:
No excuse needed to post here. Everyone is welcome. Down in the classical fencing section we have members from the West Coast, St. Louis and Wisconsin...

Hm. I'm a little curious why the data was lost, and thus requires the reinstall from backups. Anyway, thanks for the update.

The worst part of this is that it was probably done just as a malicious prank, by someone with no fencing axes to grind.

I would imagine it was hosting center-wide, or something similar, rather than targetted at fencing.net specifically. Otherwise it would have come back much faster.

Points for kd5mdk. Here is the response craig gave someone back east:
Our hosting provider for the fencing.net main site got hit with a large hacking attack that took down several servers. They are in the middle of restoring all accounts, including ours, from backups. Thank you, craig

Ahhh-thanks! Yeah, that's someone with way too much time on their hands. And I loved Katman's Youtube flick-the Mighty Morphin Power Ranger took up fencing I see. What is up with that outfit? ?

Ok, I placed an order with shop.fencing.net and included a query about the forum status. Craig stated that he planned to try and bring things back sometime today, and that what people can do to help out is to post reviews of products (apparently they got lost?). However, I wouldn't be surprised if the forums take a lot longer to bring back.
