Rachel,
Which website are you talking about? This forum? (If so, what shows up and what does not?)
If you are looking for information on fencing in the Copus Christi area, I would suggest you email Grace Buchanan directly. Currently the only club in the area is for the college students at TAMU-CC, but word is a community fencving club may get started in Corpus Christi soon (crossing fingers.)

Hi, there. This is Grace Buchanan (Haberzettle). Fencing League @ TAMUCC is still active, but not fencing in SWIFA. Bob Jones is now the coach there. Their membership is limited to TAMUCC students. However, I am starting a new group in my neighborhood. We are looking to fence at Snap Fitness, but need to set a time during the week. If you are interested in learning to fence, contact me at Saberbobcat@aol.com

This is Grace and I've been holding a class on Thursdays at my home, but have started going back to school at DelMar and can't do that any longer. I'm trying to start a group at YWCA soon because they have the perfect facility. I have high school home schoolers seeking PE credit in this sport. Once I hear back from YWCA, I'll post the verdict here. It will have to be on Friday afternoons to accommodate my schedule and hopefully around 6:00 pm.

OK... I am so sorry to finally post this. I've been very busy working full time and going to school at night for AutoCAD. In any event, we are fencing in Corpus Christi again. TAMUCC has a club called the Fencing League. If you are attending school there, you can join that club. Richard Schreiber is the President of the club. However, you can not fence there unless you are a student. So, I finally found a place to offer fencing classes in Corpus Christi. We meet on Fridays at Strong Arm Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Flour Bluff at 2132 Waldron Road across and down the street from the elementary school. The location is idea. The facility is kind of small and we are working on improving the flooring. However we DO have fencing now. Children's classes are from 6-7:30 pm and Adults classes are from 7:30-9 pm. We currently have 4 kids enrolled in the beginners class and 2 in the adult's class. TAMUCC fencers visit and help teach occasionally.

KZTV10.com - Corpus Christi Take on Tessa Fencing Challenge By Tessa Barrera KZTV Action 10 News 7/23/15www.kztv10.com/story/29602328/take-on-tessa-fencing-challengeMichael Joe Clem is a member of the Coastal Bend Fencing Society. Rather than race or play baseball like most local kids, Clem realized an affinity for the European Sport of fencing. His coach Grace, immediately saw potential in Clem and he took to the sport with ease. In fact, he was so comfortable with his skill that he challenged Tessa to a duel. Strong Arm Jujitsu, in Flour Bluff was the host spot for the challenge and Clem showed an extensive knowledge for the vocabulary and history of the sport. He initially won a quick duel to five but when that happened quicker than planned, he suggested a bout to ten. That was enough time for Tessa to relax and gain momentum for the comeback of a lifetime. She ended up winning and salvaging a trophy, but she left with a true appreciation for the classic sport of fencing. Link to video: www.lex18.com/clip/11699743/take-on-tessa-fencing-challenge

Coastal Bend Fencing Society spreads love for sport, one match at a timeBy Dayna Worchel Corpus Christi Caller-Times November 6, 2016 www.caller.com/story/news/education/2016/11/06/coastal-bend-fencing-society-spreads-love-sport-one-match-time/93237576/(Photo: Micah DeBenedetto/Special to the Caller-Times)Michael Clem says he loves the sport of fencing for several reasons. “It’s a lot of strategy and physical movement," he said. "And it’s very chivalrous and is about honoring rules and being respectful of your opponent. "You shake hands before and after you fence,” the Flour Bluff High School student said. The 14-year-old, who has been fencing for about two years, was serving as a referee for some younger students during a recent Saturday Coastal Bend Fencing Society tournament at Sunrise Mall. The tournament was called the Mini Yorick in honor of a deceased character in the William Shakespeare play, “Hamlet.” A display table nearby boasted some skull trophies with colorful flowers arranged on top. “I’ve made lots of new friends," Michael said. Grace Buchanan, founder of the Coastal Bend Fencing Society, said the sport can be compared to playing a physical chess match. She is a former classroom educator with 25 years of teaching experience under her belt. Now she works as landscape designer by day and teaches fencing at night at Sokol Hall on Kostoryz Road. “You have to strategize and outthink your opponent, which improves critical thinking skills and you have to be disciplined,” says Buchanan, who got started in fencing in 1979 at Texas State University, then Southwest Texas State University, when she took a class for a physical education requirement. Brook Dwyer, who lives in Calallen, said the sport also has helped her daughter Sarah Dwyer,13, meet new friends from across the country and develop confidence and critical thinking. Benton Bresler, 11 (left), competes against Sam Straub, 8, during their sabre fencing matchup during the Coastal Bend Fencing Society mini-tournament Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at Sunrise Mall. Sabre fencing only allows for points to be scored on hits to the upper body. (Photo: Micah DeBenedetto/Special to the Caller-Times)“It’s very demanding physically and mentally. It’s a nice, civilized sport," Dwyer said. "The kids rib each other, but treat each other well.” She said her daughter had tried a number of different sports, but especially loves fencing. “It’s hard. You have to be completely dedicated and you have to be all in,” Sarah said. Buchanan, who has coached two Junior Olympic teams, was hooked after that experience. She’s now a certified fencing coach who helped start the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi fencing club. She began the Coastal Bend Fencing Society in 2003 in her native Robstown, but eventually moved to a small space inside the Strong Arm Brazilian Jiu Jitsu business in Flour Bluff 1½ years ago. In April 2016, the society outgrew the space and moved to Sokol Hall. “I do it for the love of it," she said. "I feel like Johnny Appleseed, spreading the joy of fencing.” Get involvedFor more information about the Coastal Bend Fencing Society, visit coastalbendfencingsociety.org/ or call Grace Buchanan, 361-815-4150. This is Grace with an update. We continue to fence at Sokol Hall (5502 Kostoryz) in Corpus Christi. We have completed our demonstrations at Sunrise Mall, so we likely won't be there this month. However, our numbers continue to grow. Mondays- 5:30-6:30 pm is a class just for beginners (foil), 6:30-7:00 pm is a referee study session, 7-7:30pm is a mentor period, and 7:30-8:30 pm is open fencing (electric & dry). Thursday nights start with a referee study session from 6-6:30, and 6:30-8:30 is open fencing (electric & dry). We have 3 strips, with one being electric. Next month we are due to purchase a second electric set up. Sometimes we have more electric strips as two of our fencers have their own. Come join us! 361-815-4150 - Grace

The Coastal Bend Fencing Society in Corpus Christi, Texas is very proud to announce that it has moved all activities to the Sunrise Mall. We got tired of dodging volleyballs at Sokol Hall and Coach Kyle lead us to a much better venue. LOL In any event, we meet at the "Ship" food court upstairs by the Dollar Cinema for now. We expect to be there till late fall when we will move into our own private area near the shoe store and Sears. July through August we are only meeting on Mondays. Beginner Class is 5:3-6:30 pm and Intermediate Fencing is from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Starting in September, we expect to add Thursday nights back to our schedule fencing from 6:30-8:30 PM. We also will be hosting a non-sanctioned USFA saber tourney the last Saturday of every month starting at 10:00 AM and lasting as long as needed. This series of tourneys will conclude with 6 trophies awarded for The Savage Grace Cup. For more information, go to Ask Fred. After the first of the year, we will have 6 months of the same, except it will be epee fencing with the final trophy being the Longblade Cup. Hope you guys can make it to some of these! A fencing tourney on a ship- can't get much better!!!!
