Charles Simonian has recently released (Jan. 2005) a new edition of his famous book, Basic Foil Fencing. I have an earlier edition. It is an excellent basic reference for the student or the teacher. I used it when I taught beginning fencing and it taught me a few things! There is also a chapter on Epee and Sabre and one on class organization and teaching. LongBladeDear Coach, Fencer, or Instructor: The 6th edition of my paperback book, Basic Foil Fencing, just came out in January and is the most current book of its type now available. I hope that you will consider making it available to your beginning and intermediate fencing students, club members or classes. I have used the text myself for over thirty years and at Ohio State as the varsity fencing team coach. Instructors who may be interested in adopting the book for class use can get an examination copy by contacting the publisher, Kendall/Hunt Publishing Co. by phone at 800-228-0810 or by email: orders@kendallhunt.com. Individuals may purchase the book by phone or email by the above means or through Amazon or local bookstores. Be sure to specify sixth edition (isbn # 0757516807). The retail price is $24.95; plus any shipping and handling charges. If have not addressed this mail to the proper person, I would appreciate your forwarding it to the appropriate instructor. Thank you. Sincerely, Charles Simonian

I learned foil to the Simonian and Bower texts. His work is concise, clear and to the point (pun intended). I can understand LongBlade's use of it in teaching beginners. Excellent choice.
I am also pleased to hear the maestro is still with us.
