FOIL COACHING SEMINAR

The Pan American Fencing Academy (PAFA) is part of the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) South Regional Coaching Development program and is offered through the Continuing Education Department at Palo Alto College in San Antonio, TX. Master Vinnie Bradford is Director of PAFA. The PAFA seminars are held in the Palo Alto College Gym/Natatorium.
This seminar will focus on developing progressions, coaching methods and the classification of fencing actions. Based on these, coaches will learn ways of putting together an individual lesson in a logical sequence that is developmentally appropriate for the level of the students. The weapon that will be studied is foil, however these methods can be used in all three weapons. Also, there will be a short session on Risk Management.
REGISTRATION - $50
Coaches are strongly encouraged to enroll and pay the registration fees before the seminar begins. The registration fees must be paid to the Bursar’s office no later than May 5th. Registration will be accepted at the door but there will be a $25 late fee.
HOW TO PRE-REGISTER
1. By Check – fill out the registration form (at the bottom of this notice) and mail it in with your check or money order.
2. By Credit Card – fax the registration form with your credit card number, expiration date and original signature to the Department of Continuing Education 210-921-5328 (there is a $2 fee for credit card charges).
TAKING AN EXAM
Coaches will be able to take the written and practical Monituer exams or the written Prevost exam on Sunday morning. Those who are interested in any exam are strongly encouraged to obtain study materials ahead of time. Contact Vinnie at 210-921-5233 or vbradfor@accd.edu . To take an exam you must be a member of the USFCA. There is a USFCA fee associated with each exam.

Directions to PAC
From the East Side: Follow I-410 West to I-410 South. Exit at Texas Hwy16. On access road, before you reach Hwy 16, you will see on your right an entrance with a Palo Alto College sign. As you enter, the main campus is on your right, the Natatorium and Gymnasium Complex is on your left.
From Downtown: Follow I-35 South beyond Highway 90. After Military Drive, exit left onto Texas Hwy 16 South and turn left at the third stop light onto Villaret Blvd. Campus entrance will be on your right.
From the West Side: Follow I-410 East to I-410 South. Exit at Texas Hwy 16. Turn left and go under I-410. Turn right at first stop light, which is Villaret Blvd. Campus entrance will be on your right.
