I'm thinking about going to Nationals this year. How about after that? Late July? Sort of a crowning event to end a season with (and well before everyone is too crazed into the next season). August is always very slow, too.

Isn't that when the Games of Texas are usually held? And aren't ya'll putting the cart before the horse? I've yet to hear a single of these coaches say they WOULD participate! Then, let me be the first! I'd like it, I'd like it very much!!!This could be a lot of fun!!! ;D

I'm thinking about going to Nationals this year. How about after that? I'll talk to Paul Craig and see what kind of connections we can make as far as the venue... Oh- and if Kyle (the ghost coach from up north) doesn't fence sabre, I won't either. He and John Moreau taught me sabre too many moons ago to count. He has been out of the epee ciruit a bit lately because of his elbow, BUT have you seen what he has been doing in veteran's sabre? Furthermore, I wonder if we could get John into a sabre lame? You may not realize it, but from what I understand, that was what he fenced before epee... Oh, Saberbob, now they're wondering what the heck you're talking about. I'm North of y'all, I show up... often unannounced, and after dark (after driving time), to coach the kids. And that's what makes me the "ghost" coach. Boo!

Kyle,
I was placing the names of coaches who (I know) give lessons to other fencers. I seen you do strip coaching, just like I do, but I wasn't sure. Notice that my name is not there.
Beaumaster should be added but I was told that he has retired from giving lessons.

If and when we do have Ragnarök I'd be more than happy to volunteer to ref as long as I am free that weekend.

So we have you and I (and David says he doesn't fence anyone, just coach and referee). We have a place and maybe three referees. While they did not post here, I have also received emails of curiosity and possible interest (depending on dates) from BJ Smiley Goins and Sinclair Oubre.

Cool times ten! I know Kyle will, too. I just have not seen Paul to see about a venue. Hopefully I'll run into him in the next few days... Otherwise, I'll have to swing by his house.

Haven't given a Foil lesson in decades.

I would love to fence in this, but I think I will be very busy in the upcoming months. Katy Blades Fencing Academy is moving into Katy Mills Mall, Neighborhood 4, near Bass Pro Shop. Katy Mills Mall is a very large Mall in the area, and we are very happy with the new space beginning May 1. There will be Sunday afternoon bouting, and we will announce the details of all the programs soon. We could hold it in my location which will have glass windows so spectators can look in. There are even several places within walking distance for burgers, meals or even adult beverages, (Rainforest/Moes).
My torn meniscus is much better, and hopefully I can begin pushing it so I don't tire out as quickly. My bout with Trapani in Houston was fun the first period, and then my hamstring told me to finish the bout quickly. Daniel did with his point.
As Andrey said, 3rd place was not too bad. I would have loved to fence foil, since the directing has improved so much in this section. The only issue is the darn lights. When you clearly see hits repeatedly, and have to wait to see the lights come on it is an issue. Straight attacks don't necessarily score, and when the lights come on is more important than ever before. The FIE has ruined a very lovely game.

Congrats on the new location, Augie, and good luck with the move! Your new place actually sounds like a better venue because it would be closer to more coaches than Corpus would be. Perhaps we should host this tourney there and a CBMO in Corpus this summer in Corpus...

CBMO? Whassat?
On the record, I'm up for ANY excuse to go to Corpus.

On the record, I'm up for ANY excuse to go to Corpus. I'm with you, cap'n. So just to see how folks react and to figure how this thing should be tweaked... IF it WAS in Corpus Christi and IF it WAS on, say, August 4th who would and would not go, and why? Coaches?

Just to hazard a guess, Corpus Christi might be a bit expensive, hotel-wise, in the summer.
I would suspect either Houston, DFW or the Austin/San Marcos area would be more convenient to a larger percentage of coaches.
As dates go, I'll grant that August 4 is as inactive as it gets in Texas fencing.

;D LOL! Longblade, we skipped hosting the CBMO one year, and they already forgot!!! Jon, we would LOVE to have you visit and cross blades with us! I'm sure your pretty little girls would have a ball at the beach, too. AND, rooms are never cheap here unless they are on the wrong side of town. That's what you pay for being close to paradise. Jon has selective memory when I beat him... And, that was a gauntlet you saw being tossed, Jon! *L*

Thanks, long one. Where have you been? Oh, finishing the remodeling job on my house, fencing Sabre, and doing some rehab so I can fence Epee again.

I spoke some with Delfina this weekend and she was interested if the events are gender segregated. Early August is still the favored timeframe.

This thread kind of wimped out for awhile. I was just curious, among the fencing coaches in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, if we found a venue in the first half of August, who would really be interested in suiting up?

Depending on the location, I think the coaches at Tech would be interested. Possibly Amarillo College.

We could always do it like the old "Bragging Rights of Texas" tournament and schedule it for a town that is in between the main fencing centers. What was it back then? Calvert?
