Here's a link to a brand new Yahoo Group, so new there is not a single post, yet, but check out the owner's description. It is certainly... different: realswords: Real Sword FightingDescription this is a group for real sword fighting. not fencing or as i like to call it "slap fighting with swords." and for those of you who use the padded weapons, You need to toughen up. I use real metal, they are blunt but they can still break bones. Sounds like he's organizing quite a fun bunch, eh?

Internet Tough Guy Syndrome?
Now that's inspired! I can see the ad campaigns now, "Friends don't let friends act tough on the web..."

This guy sounds like a prime graduate of the "hold my beer and watch this" school. Anyone else feel a Darwin Award winner approaching?

I realize that there are all types here, but I'm a sport fencer because I view it as a sport, and when it comes to defending myself against a guy armed with a sword, I prefer something described with a caliber.

I notice that, for a Yahoo Group begun on January 18th, they still don't have but the original founding member.
I guess the option of fencing under conditions where you can win a broken bone just didn't appeal to that many people.

I recall seeing a person on LiveJournal who appeared to be very set in their (silly) ideas. They were the moderator of some half a dozen communities, and the only member in each. Now that's a strict moderator.
