Today, in the annual STX division meeting, several things were discussed in a well attended meeting. Our resources: We have 4 electric strips, 2 Fab-01 machines, and other machines/reels for a total of 8 strips (I believe). We have about $4400 in the bank. Our tournaments: We will be continuing the tradition of the 2008 Pouj. Oscar will try to get more higher level referees to keep the traditional high quality of the tournament. He also applauded the idea of team tournaments. Salle Pouj plans to have 3 tournaments next season including an Open, a mixed Team, and a Veteran tournament. Oscar requested having the desired slots for tournaments of the upcoming season quite early, before Aug. 1st. The issue of the STX SSCC tournament was brought up and is most likely that the 2007 Longhorn will be the STX SSCC.
Our elected officers for 2007-8 are: President - Oscar Barrera VicePresident - Christina Howell Secretary - Kyle Maysel (defeating the incumbent Secretary) Treasurer - Ines Walker Tournament Coor. - Lynn Mendoza
A new webmaster was also named.
The meeting had about 30 voting members and there were about another 30 proxy votes.

Among the things that I learned today, is that back in the 70's, there was a different STX president than Oscar Barrera [aka: O. Castro]. The previous STX president was ..... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... ...... no other than LongBlade!!!!!Congrats (Condolences ), on getting elected!

A new webmaster was also named. Congratulations and condolences to them all from their neighbors in the Gulf Coast Division.

I'm pretty sure there were a couple of others who served in between Oscar and I. But Oscar definitely wins the endurance award! Back when I served as Chairman, we were still called the Amateur Fencer's League of America (AFLA). Oscar may be the first to serve under the USFA organization. I'll have to ask him.

Paul Schimmelman also was the South Texas Division Chair in the mid-90's. Did a good job of it too, if I remember correctly.

Congrats to Oscar and his group. I thought when you did a great job you got to retire?
I look forward to seeing the South Texas group with my new fencers next season. You are welcome to come by and check out my new location on Sunday afternoons in bouting, (Kyle, adult beverages are within walking distance in the mall).
I am so far west that I am almost adopted by South Texas anyway.

From a STX perspective, as we are driving back, the Katy Mall location is THE landmark to relax .... in 2 miles, we're finally done with Houston's traffic ... the I-10W highway ... cruise control.
From our perspective, we would love to have the Houston tournaments at your new facility.

*chuckle* and of course its all about what is easiest for SOUTH Texas right? Hey, those of us in NORTH Texas love it when the events are in the Woodlands!

Hey, those of us in NORTH Texas love it when the events are in the Woodlands! Of course, there are few Gulf Coast fencing near-exiles at Sam Houston State in Huntsville (the Gulf Coast Division actually extends up as far as Madisonville). If SHSU could get a club going like it had in the 1970s, the DFW contigent would have a shorter drive still.

Congrats to all! Sorry I could not be there; I was speaking at a Reading Conference in Corpus Christi. However, I understand that it would not have made a difference anyway. The USFA apparently does not have me down as a member in the South Texas Division. I wonder WHERE they stuck me since I registered with ATAC as usual. Possibly the second club, Coastal Bend Fencing Society, threw them off and I am in the Gulf Coast Division. Hmmm... Guess I'll have to get on their tails before the Yorrick if I want to fence.

Nothin' wrong with a col' beer after a day of fencin', Augie! Gosh knows you've had a little replenishment of your liquids and electrolytes after a hard day.

Where were you far-traveling North Texas folks?

I have you down as a member, Saberbob! I KNOW you and Tim Kellogg paid dues no matter what USFA says! I saw you both pay and fence in tournaments this year! Send me your documentation and we'll get 'er done!

When I was at TAMU, in the early 90's, SHSU had a club going on there. They came over to join us at our practice on two different occasions.

Just for the record, I contacted USFA, and they do have us down as members in the South Texas Division. I should be getting my membership card in the mail. I dunno what went wrong, but at least I can fence the Yorrick and party with the SWT allumni afterwards.

Saberbob's always been in the So TX Divison, Nemo. Her primary club has always been ATAC, in San Marcos, and the Coastal Bend Fencing Society is in Robstown, a half a mile North of Highway77 dividing line.
