We are working on THE BOBCAT to be October 4th & 5th. Just waiting for the people (Recreation Sports Dept.) to tell us we can have the building. Of course they are waiting for the school to come out with the classroom assignment schedule. But like usual, they say its probably just fine, just waiting for the OK. Ok rumor is that UT wants to put the Longhorn earlier on the calender this year and Its the date that was chosen for the "Bobcat" at Texas State. So i recommended to the new President that they do a "doci doe" switch which the traditional Longhorn date and hold the Bobcat on [/size] October 25 - 26. So in conclusion, If they take my advice, the Longhorn will be on a more Bobcat traditional date and the Bobcat will be on a more Longhorn traditional date!

We switched with UT at least once, date wise in a similar fashion, because of home football schedules.

Something making the rounds out of North Texas Division...
"North Texas has a combined SSCC/RYC scheduled for November 1-2. "
Combining an SSCC and an RYC. That sounds... ambitious.

SSCC merged with an RYC?
I will presume their cup runneth over with strips, referees and armorers.

Its a good sized facility, and we've got a good crew to run it... Ya'll should come up and play. All the proceeds will benefit the Wang Scholarship fund (which ANY collegiate-bound fencer can apply for).

So, are the two tournaments switching out? I got a Facebook email from the President at Texas State confirming that the Bobcat IS going to be on the 25th of October.

On July 20th, 2008 at 5:15 pm (CST), there is still no notice at the Southwest Section Website of the choosen 5th SSCC bid.

We received a number of excellent bids, however, none were ideal. We've requested additional information and modifications to a couple of them though, and look to have all the kinks worked out... shortly. Its taking a bit, because people (other than the SSCC Commission members) are on vacation right now. We want to make sure the best event possible is put together.
However, for everyone's planning purposes, its not going to affect anything in the fall. Its going to be in late spring.

Well, it would be of assistance if certain people in the Gulf Coast would return phone calls....

You can't blame me on that one. I did not bid. I was turned down twice and won't go through that again. It sounds like Louise needs to return a telephone call. Call her cell.

It isn't Mauro Dave's waiting on... For some reason it was crossed off my to do list, so I thought I had.

The fifth SSCC event will be at Rice University, March 28 and 29, hosted by Rice University.
Three bids were received and evaluated.
Augie, when did you put in a bid to the SSCC Commission and were turned down. And turned down twice?

David,
I have been turned down twice since the Gulf Coast Division started its rotation.
I did not want the SSCC, but that was what was assigned by the division, and the section turned me down each time. The last time was two years ago. My computer is going through issues, so I will try to look up emails again.

Hey, I hve a question regarding the schedule.
The Gulf Coast website has an SSCC listed in Houston at BCFA Jan 10-11 in conjunction with an RYC. AskFRED.net lists the Rose Condon that weekend also. Which is correct -- I would imagine both parties have begun arrangements...

Which is correct -- I would imagine both parties have begun arrangements... Dan Dan, My understanding is that they are about to shift some dates around. My understanding is folks at Ark-La-Miss contacted folks at the Gulf Coast and an arrangement was worked out. ALM had to shift Rose Condon (to the date it now holds on FRED). Give me just a bit to nail this down.

So how's that affect the RYC scheduled in Houston the same weekend?

What happened with the SSCC #3?
I moved my Veteran event from Jan. 10 to Jan. 24 because of that tournament.

What happened with the SSCC #3? I moved my Veteran event from Jan. 10 to Jan. 24 because of that tournament. Well, as I understand it (take that for what it is worth), the Gulf Coast SSCC #3 was originally slated for January 10-11. For some reason (perhaps the Dallas RYC) they moved to Jan 24-25. Then there was a request from the Ark-La-Miss Division to swap SSCC dates, sending the Gulf Coast SSCC (now becoming SSCC #4) to February and the Ark-La-Miss SSCC (the Rose Condon Memorial, now bumped to SSCC #3) to the January slot, specifically January 24-25. Then the Rose Condon found itself in a weekend that fell the week after a NAC and the weekend before a NOC (specifically, the Pouj). [Recall, the Pouj became a NOC tournament well into the SSCC schedule.] The ALM Division leadership felt the tournament would not enjoy past success on the one weekend between a NAC and a NOC, so they moved to September 2009 (last I heard, anyway). Meanwhile the Gulf Coast Division's SSCC #4, now back to being SSCC #3 since there is no Rose Condon this season, pretty much finds itself too late in the game to move back wards to its original slot. Just my 2-cents since this going to keep getting ugly without MUCH better communications.
