I got a bit behind seeing to other matters, but for anyone interested here are the 1950 Italian National Fencing Master competitions...

The camera angles for the foil bout at the start were the best. I don't speak Italian but could swear at the beginning of the sabre event the narrator mentioned "Mangiarotti" and "Nadi"... the fencers' mentors or original teachers?

The video interests me for two reasons.
First, schlager7 seems to be inching forward in time ever so slowly and we are getting a nice idea (at least at the elite levels of the time) of how fencing changed or didn't. I hope he continues this while also fleshing out clips from the earlier decades.
Second, we now are getting one of the East European fencers. As a group it cannot be denied that they a significant impact on our sport in the last third of the 20th century.
I think it is interesting that we may have the chance to see/relive that moment as French and Italian styles met Russian/Polish/etc styles in the 1950s-1970s.

Should I presume by the lengthy silence on this thread that the video well has run dry? Pity. It's been entertaining and enlightening.

I am called to task for my negligence...
I have a few in the works, here is the first of the next flurry. Bear with me as I force myself to learn video editing...
From 1924, Sabre fencing world champion Dr. Sándor Pósta and his coach, Dr. László Gerentsér: warming up training exercises with the foil; epée fencing; practicing tempo; sabre fencing school and assault exercises.
This one is silent with title cards... Sorry, I don't read Magyar.

This one is silent with title cards... Sorry, I don't read Magyar. I am SO disappointed. Seriously, though, thanks for Sandor Posta clip. This is one of the older clips you've posted and, because it was filmed as a series of examples, gives us quite a peek at a (presumably) prevalent style from some 90 years ago.

Isn't the foilist on the bottom right (in the scene after the shot of the woman in the audience) somewhat seriously covering target???

That's an awfully wide swing or beat the one fellow made. I am hoping that was just for the camera.

Those gals sure have fast circular parries. Reminded me of running into that airplane propeller Robert Reed calls a counter 4. lmao!

The narration is, not surprisingly, in German...

Sorry. there's just something creepy about watching scenes of fencing with Nazis in the background.

Okay, no more Nazis from the 1940s. How about communists from the 1950s? Narration is in German. The hi-tech foil scorebox may be of interest to the armorers...

The girl who won the foil bout actually looks kind of cute.
I just can't believe I'm so bored on a Saturday that I'm here...

I've rewatched this last video almost every day since it was posted. It think I just love the grand salute to that music. Kinda kitchy, but kinda cool...
