Not so surprising. I believe that's the school Megan Haberzettle goes to.

I took off work yesterday and met with the members of this fencing club yesterday. They were surprised that people knew about them on the fencing forum (Thanks, John). They have been fencing 3 months and have a gorgeous, brand-new facility on campus. This week I am gathering all my equipment, and sending it over there to help them since they only have two masks, two jackets, and a handful of weapons. If they need my assistance, they have it. Megan is interested in this, too. It was very refreshing to see so many young people interested in fencing.

I certainly will. So far it appears that JJ (the President of their club) has been working with them with foil for the past 3 months or so (dry of course). Now most are wanting to learn saber because JJ is a saber fencer. So... of course Megan and I are real happy about that! Tomorrow we have a group of folks that are going to help us move everything out of the Robstown salle and Tim's house (CBFS has slowly, but surely died) and store it in my garage until JJ can get a key for a storage area at the university. Meanwhile we are going to inventory everything and JJ will order what he can for now (they have a small, but acceptable budget with the university). I have strongly suggested to him that he use part of that budget to have his club join USFA and get the necessary insurance. In any event, I am very excited that my small library, equipment, and knowledge is going to be put to good use, and even more excited that fencing will continue to grow here.

Happy to hear that they are doing well at TAMU at CC, but sad to hear about CBFS.
Keep fencing alive in Corpus Christi!

We started something down here and are not near finished. A lot of stuff has happened in the past 4 years that have made it almost impossible to keep things going, so there was not much of a choice to make about closing the doors in Robstown. And since we hopped to the other side of HWY 77, I guess we are officially in Gulf Coast Division now... right?

First practice with the college kids is tomorrow night. I'll see if I can't take some pics and post them. The facility is out of this world- newly built this past summer (wooden floors, mirrors on two walls, etc....) Exceptional! A perfect place for a tournament....

I am a bit familiar with some of the coaches and fencers in this division. They are wonderful folks and I look forward to working with them in the future. I'm just excited to be working in such a nice facility with fencers again after all this time. Gonna be rusty... rusty indeed!

This is one locker the fencing club was assigned before my equipment started showing up. They started out with 2 masks, 2 jackets, and a number of dry foils. Attachments:

This shows just some of the stuff we added to that locker today. It does not show any of the electric equipment, except the sabers. I believe they will get a second locker because not everything fits in that one. Attachments:

This club fences from 8-9:30 pm on Wednesday nights and 1-3:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday afternoons upstairs in the Dugan Wellness Center (sports rec center) in room 240. They have meetings on Fridays in the Union Center from 1-2:30 pm in Tejas 106. They have one complete electric strip. All have had about 3 months of foil, and most are currently learning saber. A few want to learn epee, but we'll have to have an armory workshop to get those weapons in working order.

The Fencing League @ TAMCC competed in their very first tournament today- March Madness. Phil (Vice President, JJ (President), and Robert (Armorer) did extremely well for their first competition. JJ won TWO DEs in foil and took home 3rd place medals in foil and saber. We are very proud of our officers!
