Hello!
I was just wondering which club in Houston you guys think is the best for epee.
I would like a club with experienced fencers. Not just little kids and beginners. Some of them are fine, I have no problem with them and I'm glad they're fencing : ) , but I would like to get back into the sport and I find it hard to do so if all I have to do to win is extend my arm.
Anywho... I looked at Bayou City Fencing Acadamy. It looked nice but I saw the page about it closing. I hope it hasn't/isn't because I liked the looks of it.
And I know of Alliance and Salle Mauro... Even though I don't know if Salle Mauro is still doing epee... And WFF... And Katy Blades. And Knights of Trapani. I've jumped around... A bit. >_>
I haven't fenced in a while and I was just wondering which would be the best to go to now. I feel so out of touch.
Anyway! Please let me know and thank you for the help!

is this Craig @ clfc? If so you might ask Don, Bill , Phillip, or Catherine, they used to go to Salle Mauro on saturday, I think it was epee only & fun. John goes to Galveston on thursday night, Bayou city also had fencing, since its for sale, I dont know, ask John or Nicole.have a happy 4th of July

Hi!
Alliance is probably the strongest in epee, with CLFC a close second. Katy and Mauro thirds. BCFA isn't closing or for sale, but has very few epee fencers, emphasis is saber and foil.

I agree Alliance is the local epee heavy hitter, but Woodlands Fencing Foundation has been showing up at tournaments with a number of very good epeeists.
After that I'd look at Katy Blades and the Brazosport Fencing Extravaganza. BFE is an all-epee club.
Knights of Trapani has pretty much folded.
Most of Salle Mauro's experienced epee fencers no sport Alliance shoulder patches.
Clear Lake's main claims to local epee fame are Don Cravey and Catherine Scott. Both do well, but CLFC is a small club and only have a few, mostly veteran, epeeistes. They seem mostly to be a club of high school age foilists.
I wouldn't rule BCFA out completely since Davis Jno-Finn fences out of that club. I hear he also coaches, so he may started teaching epee out of that club.

No... This is not Craig from clfc. XD
Ok. Well.
Does anyone know who fences in the Alliance location in the Woodlands? I know they have different classes but I'd like to know if the Woodlands is worth going to or if I should just go to the Houston location.
Also. Katy Blades. I liked Katy Blades. They were always very welcoming. But do they have good fencers there? I looked at the website but there wasn't much info.

Why don't you just visit two or three of the clubs closest to you and see. If you are over 40 (this is what the USFA refers to as the "verteran" age group), then just ask, how many veteran teams have you had compete over the last 5 years in the national tournaments? What were their results? This is a good objective way to cut through the crap and find out who really does have the best older fencers and the most attended program.
