I was recently advised that Gary Van der Wege was interested in holding a referee seminar in the Gulf Coast while he was over here for the Clear Lake Open (Saturday, March 19). Such seminars can run to four hours. Gary requested a straw poll to see if would-be participants prefer a Friday evening seminar or one during the day on the Sunday after the tournament.
So if you are a referee who needs to log some seminar time in (like me) or wish to take the exam for your rating and start yourself on the road to becoming a referee, answer up.
Friday or Sunday?

After speaking with Gary Van der Wege, the seminar will be held on Friday afternoon. Louise Lepie has made her facility available for the seminar. I may also try to find something closer to the actual tournament venue (and thus closer to the hotel Gary will be in). As soon as I have set times I will post the seminar to FRED.
As usual, after the seminar folks may take the written exam (probably on Saturday morning) with chances to be observed at the tournament.
Oh, and I slightly changed the title of this thread since the matter of day has been resolved.

As you may or may not know, the Gulf Coast Division of the USFA is hosting a referee clinic on Friday evening at the Springhill Suites Mariott on NASA Parkway in Seabrook, TX. This is in conjuction with the Clear Lake Open tournament. Whether you plan to attend or not, please note the following. Attendance at the clinic is free to members of the Gulf Coast Division. For those who are already rated referees, this fulfills your requirement to attend clinics annually. Gary Van der Wege will hold the clinic and will update your listing. For those who are not rated referees and wish to be, this clinic is an essential step. Additionally, Gary will offer the opportunity for unrated attendees to take the written exam the next morning at the tournament. There is a separate fee of $10.00 to take the written exam Saturday morning. This is largely to reduce the number of people who have not prepared but would otherwise decide to take the test just because someone else is paying for it. Both those already rated who wish to improve that rating, and those who take the written test and wish to receive an initial rating may referee a bit at the tournament while observed by Gary Van der Wege. If none of the above applies in your case, consider that this message was sent to you so that you may pass this along to your students and/or clubmates.
