I will be attending the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen. Would anyone know of a coach or club down there? I have been trying to locate the Harlingen Impalers. Many thanks for your time, TJ

Wow. I haven't heard anything from the Harlingen Impalers in years! As far as I know they folded tent about ten years ago.

For those interested in fencing in the RGV you can email me at vrdixon@aol.com. We don't have any fencing clubs that I know of right now but we have had clubs in the past and if I can get enough interest I would be interested in restarting. I live in Brownsville, so I am limited to the mid-valley for anything long term but I would be willing to travel to McAllen to help someone start something there. We have some equipment available.

That is ridiculously cool! A guys goes on line for help or with a question. A few days go by with hints of movement in the shadows. Then you hear there may be hope. Then contact is made. Okay, so this is not exactly the answer he was looking for, but you never know. A new fencing group could be generated from exactly THIS type of communication. I may not be the most active person on this forum but this is why I visit at least once each day! Two thumbs up!

Thanks, Randy! If you guys get a club going down there, let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

To be even more specific than the above, please post if you get practices going, have people coming and fencing, and find that you need stuff to fence with. I for example have a stack of back zip adult sized jackets, some new and some lightly used, and some women's chest plates, new, which I will never use under my current club configuration where kids start at 12 and buy their own stuff after the first year or so. If a club gets going and needs equipment I'd be glad to donate them.
Likewise if you need epees, I have a big box of bells, a box of sockets, a box of random grips, and god's own amount of used but still workable tip parts. Buy some bare StM blades and you can have a stack of epees.
I'd be happy to help a new club, but this is a 'grant', if you will, that's contingent on the club actually existing and having people in it who are actually fencing and need stuff, I don't want to give a stack of epees to someone to have them sit in a closet because the class fell apart after two weeks.
Finally, look at my other thread regarding scoring equipment.

I know it is only two people asking around on one little fencing board, but it sure makes me wonder if a little fencing action might get started down in Harlingen or McAllen.
Crossing my fingers.
