It looks as though the South Houston High School fencing team will be no more, with the passing of Jerry Dunaway, but fencing may continue there as an after school club this fall.
While he has been absent from the Lone Star State for a time, former SWIFA fencers may recall Matt Cooper from the Fencing Club at the University of Houston. It is my understanding that Matt will be coaching the SHHS fencers.
Welcome back, Matt.

I got 18 fencing jackets from Jerry Dunaway's widow. All needed some repair (holes, broken straps, zippers, etc). After some time and a bit of expense I have twelve of the eighteen ready to get recycled back to the South Houston High School Fencing Club. Nicole will pass them off to Matt Cooper.
Now if someone will just tell me that there WILL be a SHHS fencing club this season!!!!!!!!

It's been awhile since the last post and I was just wondering if there was anything new on this front.

I am pleased to annouce the South Houston High School finally made good on their statement that they would allow fencing to resume as an after-school club. Katman and 20 of the students met for the first time last Tuesday.
