I have to confess I was really surprised when Wiley took it in the final from Jack Hudson. He squeaked ahead of Gian-Carlo Rando in the semi by a single point just before.
Even though Scott was almost universally doing everything opposite of what his coach was telling him (and let's face it, Andrey knows a thing or two about epee), he was all over everyone in sheer timing. He was in the zone all day. This was one of the best performances I've seen him turn out.
Also kudos to Jett and the UH bunch. The epee event was AWESOME!!!!!

I voted for Mechkov and was surprised when Wiley moved through the ranks. This was a very deep field for epee and Wiley fought long and hard the whole way. I tip my chapeau to him completely.
That said, it was a real treat seeing Mechkov again. He was so poised, precise and just bloody accurate in his actions it was an inspiration.

Props for Wiley fighting his way to the gold. Frankly my money would have been on Jack Hudson, but Wiley stayed focussed with his eye on the prize.
That said, the Rando-Wiley bout in the semi-finals was awesome. Rando had just defeated Justin Meehan and Esteban Sanchez. Scott had just won out over Craig Parker and Matthew Shlimak. It could have so easily gone the other way. Both fencers had to change and adapt throughout the bout.
Cheers to everyone in the epee event. It was glorious.
