SWIFA 4 for the 2003-2004 season will be held April 24 (teams) and 25 (individuals). The location will be...somewhere. A&M is hosting the tournament this year but they haven't nailed down a venue yet to my knowledge. I believe the format will be the same as SWIFA 3. Who plans to go? Update: SWIFA 4 has been confirmed at TAMU. Where at TAMU? Well, that much is still being worked out as well.

What was the format of SWIFA 3. The version I heard was that it was a little fluid.

If I remember correctly (and I proably don't, considering I didn't go) it was a round of pools fenced like SWIFA 1 (fencer A from UH against fencer A from A&M, B against B, C against C and so forth) followed by direct elimintation. I think DEs were handled like regular team encounters and I do not remember if pools were round-robin or not. Yes, it was a bit more fluid from what I heard. People were done and gone by 3 or 5 in the afternoon. edit: i r gud @ spelink

Hope this helps. Here's an excerpt from an e-mail I got from Wes Phillips this week: The tournament itself will be in the rec center. Here's a link to that: www.tamu.edu/map/building/overview/SREC.htmlWe won't start until about 10:45-11:00. The team tourney will be on Saturday, while individual will be on Sunday. And one thing on the format, D.E.s will be the way they used to be. That is a race to 5 victories. Pools will still be the ABC format, but DEs will be the race to 5.

So Katman, do you or cowpaste know the results? Did you go?
How about a post from A&M?

Niether one of us went. Results are pending. Waaaaaay pending. SWIFA is horrible about full results (especially when the stupid team doesn't stay to get them).

I heard A&M placed second in epee to TSU, but that's the only result I have.

Can't speak for his ability in foil or sabre, but I got to direct part of the team epee event at Battle on the Bayou and I would SWEAR young Mr. Kline grows eight inches taller in the lunge.
I was much impressed with his demeanor AND his ability.
Oh, yeah, and his point control is devastating!

Thank you Kyle. Argh, looks like we at UH need to beef up our foil and epee. Sabre couldn't hurt either.
