I am pleased to report on two of the newer clubs operating within the Gulf Coast Division.
======================================
The first is at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Ed Spaulding writes, "We are having meetings at the HKC on Friday at 4 pm to 6 pm every week. All interested are welcome to come. Please look us up on Facebook as well."
======================================
The second is just southwest of the Houston City Limits. Of the Missouri City Fencing Academy, Manny Rodriguez writes,
"We started with five students two weeks ago and now we have 13. Barbara Cervantes, ex-member of the Cuban National Team asked us if she could be part of this and we were delighted. She is a refugee who practically swam to freedom from Cuba. She has a master's degree in Physical Culture with a minor in fencing. She trained the two top fencers of the Cuban National Team and has also had a hand in training Isael when he was a musketeer.
"Philosophically, we believe that fencing should be for everyone who shows a passion for the sport that is why we are making it very affordable. By popular demand we are now going to meet three times a week instead of two. We have no frills and we just ordered our first scoring machine and reels. We are very excited about our program. We want our students to have a wonderful
and happy experience while learning to fence.
"Just recently I was put in charge of the academy as chief cook and bottle washer. We are learning as we go along, working for Louise was a good experience which I will be forever thankful.
We want to extend good will to all the club owners and to cooperate in promoting fencing in the Gulf Coast Division."
