According to www.escrime-info.com/modules/news/article.php?storyid=446 the FIE conference has voted 51-33 in favor of reducing the the lockout time for sabre. They further voted 50-32 to reduce it to 120 milliseconds. While many of our division's sabreurs have only recently picked up the weapon, I was curious what our more established sabreurs, like Dan, think.

To compare, in sabre, the lockout time currently is 300 - 350 milliseconds.

Knee-jerk reaction, I don't see the need for it. I think It makes sabre a little too much like epee and unnecessarily weakens the attack. That said, I attempt more timed hits/counter-attacks than most the people I fence, so maybe it'll be god for me. I also didn't like the idea of stiffer blades before they came out, but think it's great now, so this could work out like that. I'll wait until I get a chance to fence the new time until I pass judgement I guess, but I would like to see sabre left alone for a few years and see what shakes out. Dan ps I hope all the clubs are ready to send their boxes off the get the time adjusted now.

Well, I like the stiffer blades, but still miss the fleche in sabre.
I guess I'll wait and see how it all works out.
