For those who had not seen it yet, below is the text of the FIE Urgent Letter of September 23, 2005 www.fie.ch/download/letters/2005/urgent/11/en/Lettre%20urgente%20%2011-05-ANG.pdfLadies and Gentlemen,
A large number of national federations informed us of their difficulties to get supplies of masks with transparent visor. By urgent consultation, the Executive Committee has therefore decided to limit the wearing of transparent masks for the 2005-2006 season as follows :
Women’s and Men’s Foil and Epee :
- at all the stages of Grand Prix competitions, Team World Cup competitions, Individual and Team competitions of Senior World Championships
- application : starting after the 2005 Leipzig World Championships.
The wearing of mask with transparent visor is therefore not compulsory at Foil and Epee for the 2005 Leipzig World Championships.
Women’s and Men’s Sabre :
the decision communicated in the information letter 01-05 and the urgent letter 06-05 remains unchanged. We remind you that mask with transparent visor must be worn at women’s and men’s sabre as follows :
- at all the stages of Grand Prix competitions, Team World Cup competitions, Individual and Team Cadet, Junior, Senior and Veteran World Championships.
- Application : as from 1st March 2005.

Oh, so the F.I.E. didn't even check to see if what they mandated everyone to use was even possible to obtain before we obtained the edict from the gods?
Maybe we should call them F.E.M.A. (Federation de' Escrime of the Moronic & Asinine) instead of the F.I.E.?
I'm sure they'll live up to the new name!

I got this blip from Fencing.Net's Twitter and Facebook sites Saturday morning while at the Houston ROC. No one else has said anything so I'm including it here.
"FIE Congress: No more requirement to use the visor mask at sabre, passes 52/48"
