Notice this eliminates the second round of pools for all three weapons and both genders, and eliminates repechage for both genders of sabre regardless of event size.
My initial reaction to this was definitely surprise:
1) Eliminating sabre rep will not shorten event run times, percentage wise, nearly as much as it would shorten the other event run times.
2) Sabre calls are frequently, in my limited experience, the most hotly contested, and I would not be surprised to see the number of "the ref lost me that event" claims go up, at least from less mature fencers if they're at this level.
Anyone seen anything about this yet? Anyone know what the logic is? If kd5mdk recalls correctly, the first Div I that will function under these format changes will be in December. Thoughts?
