I just got done playing as Germany and have honed my tactics. On arcade mode, you'll never make it to the finals with a five minute time limit. However, I was near to ending the 6th bout by simply repeating one action as soon as the point begins. As soon as the point begins, the computer will always perform a straight attack, not the fast lunge. As long as you do not advance, this initial attack will always fall short. Simply counter attack into your opponent's recovery with slightly varrying tempo. If you make it an immediate counterattack, the computer will use the intial attack as an invitation to parry riposte you at close distance (hmm.... I wonder if I've ever done anything simular during a DE Rather, allow the computer opponent to recover and pull the blade back. As said above, if you counter as soon as the attack falls short, you'll get parried and my be hit with a riposte. If you can master the tempo of this game, its no contest. Of course, it is also fun to fence it out with varrying straight attacks, parry/ripostes and ducking stop thrusts to the hand.
