Except that they are AFL, which is not technically 'Classical' but early sport fencing, what some refer to as 'Modern'.

So what do you call what comtemporary USFA/FIE fencers do? I believe that is called 'postmodern' by those who call the AFL 'modern'.

Just FYI, with regard to that particular tournament on FRED, the 2006 Russ Heggen Memorial, I found this on a listserve: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I regret to announce that we are canceling the Prep foil event for Salem Classical Fencing's upcoming 3rd Annual Russ Heggen Memorial Tournament due to low registration. We will hold the Novice epee and Novice sabre events at the announced times. However, both events will be held at SCF instead of West Salem HS, as we only have one pool's worth of fencers registered. SUMMARY: Prep Foil -- CANCELED Novice Epee -- moved to SCF (address below) -- no change to time Novice Sabre -- moved to SCF -- no change to time Saturday lunch -- CANCELED Complete details available at: salem.classicalfencing.us/tournaments/Thanks, Michael Heggen Salem Classical Fencing 354 Belmont Street NE Salem OR 97301

I see one person registered in Epee and Sabre. Perhaps their definition of "one pool worth" is a little flexible.

I would expect, since FRED has been little used by the non-USFA fencers until just recently, few of them were familiar with its utility.
Presumably, there were other avenues.
