a message from Ted deChatelet
Greetings Friends, Actor Combatants and Advanced Actor Combatants of the SAFD.
I recently returned from the latest Governing Body meeting in Denver and have a LOT of information to share with you all. I am also very interested in hearing your feedback on any and all of these issues or any others that are not being addressed.
The most pertinent development I want to share with you is COMMUNICATION! Willie Maybohm has set up some computer thingee (I'm a technophobe) that allows me to contact you the membership with much greater ease! I bow before Willie's computer greatness and thank him profusely. This means for better or worse you will be hearing a lot more from me and I (hopefully) will be hearing a lot more from you. So as not to overwhelm you in this first email, I will first bullet-point the pertinent issues affecting you the membership but I will ONLY be detailing the first 3 in this email. The rest will follow in weekly (or so) installments until all points are covered. So here's the agenda:
1. The Website! In 2009 we will launch and new and MUCH improved website to better serve you!
2. An overhaul of the SPT system.
3. A new system of identifying ACs and AACs (closely linked to #2).
4. Publications, changes to the Fight Master and the Cutting Edge.
5. Membership Dues (they've never increased before in the history of the SAFD, hint hint).
6. FREE T-shirts for all renewing members!
7. Implementing the SAFD gun safety training policy.
8. Regional Workshop News (more and cheaper?)
Again, in this email I will discuss 1, 2 & 3.
Here we go:
1. The SAFD Website! Great changes are in store for the website. We're hiring a new designer to overhaul the look and we're completely restructuring the content. You will be able to follow your SAFD career completely online. Dates and results of your tests, what weapons you are current in and when they expire, etc. All ACs will be listed as such on the website and AACs will have a profile (similar to those of our CTs currently on the website). ACs and AACs will be organized by region as well. This means producers and directors looking for ringers can look you up on our database for auditions, etc. IF you have ideas on how we can better use the website to serve you, let me know and I'll pass em on to the GB.
2. We are in the process of overhauling the SPT system. Details are still being worked out but we are looking at a 3 potential outcome SPT: Fail (obvious), some sort of basic pass, and a more advanced pass that reflects an ability to fight AND act. This more advanced pass will NOT be as elusive as the EAE.
3. Reflected in this new process, the levels of membership (Actor Combatant, and Advanced Actor Combatant) will be modified as well. Again details are still being worked out but the AC level will be 3 weapons and somehow connected to the more advanced pass. Likewise the AAC will be 6 weapons and also connected in some fashion to the more advanced pass. All current ACs and AACs who remain current will automatically be grandfathered in to the modified system.
Thoughts? Opinions? Lemme hear em!
Well there's plenty more in store, but in the interest of keeping this (somewhat) brief, I'll sign off here. It is my distinct pleasure to serve you as the Friend/AC/AAC rep and I look forward to bringing your needs, concerns and opinions forward.
Best,
Ted deChatelet
