Hrmmm... I just was looking over this event (we're thinking about attending) and I noticed the presence of mixed events. Which seems curious, because when I've been involved in running the Games (twice in DFW, once in Waco and once in College Station), TAAF made us do Men's and Women's events. Has TAAF changed their policies?

Has TAAF changed their policies? I don't know about that either, David. I'd check on that with the organizer first! It's always been gender segregated before. It may have changed, but that's a very good question.

I asked and here's the answer:
"I looked into it and there is no conflict. It is perfectly legal. Apparently TAAF has left that decision to be made by the coordinators of each sport. Only Track and Field and other "major" sporting events are segregated by gender. These are also the sports that have a mandatory spectator fee. Fencing because of the few entries (no where near 200) does not. Hope this helps. --Jose"

Just to clarify... Jose Sanchez, coach of the Dreams of Youth program, is the local organizer.

At the risk of it hasn't always been segregated, because I remember being in the epee final with Jim at the Games of Texas one year (maybe 03 or 04?).

Thanks, LongBlade, and I am happy to see my friend Don Cravey took second in sabre.
Looks like it was a very talented showing this weekend.

Punter Justin Brantly was the only Aggie named to the Big 12 all-preseason team. But at least he's a strong one, averaging 42.9 yards a kick last season. Texas A&M kicker Matt Szymanski, on the other hand, will not be back despite being only a sophomore after transferring to SMU. The kicker came to College Station as one of the top kicking recruits in the country, but struggled in his first year. ------------------------------------------------ Dinesh Texas Treatment Centers

You get the feeling that last poster never took notice of the fact this is a FENCING forum?
