Hello Faithful Volunteers! I know I have been inundating you with emails lately, but we have another volunteer opportunity for you all. We at the Harris County – Houston Sports Authority are excited to help host the 2008 National Beep Baseball Association’s World Series. Beep Baseball is the adaptive version of America's favorite pastime for the blind and visually impaired.
“Spectators who witness today's style of beep baseball are generally delighted. They see blind athletes dive onto the ground to stop a beeping ball and run full speed toward the sound of a buzzing base to score a run. They see desire, determination, teamwork and in many cases skilled performances of sightless players having fun in the midst of extreme competition.” – National Beep Baseball Association
The games will be played at Meyer Park at the corner of Cyprus Wood Drive and Stuebner-Airline in North Houston.
Tuesday, July 29th – 8am, 10:30am, 2pm
Wednesday, July 30th – 8am, 10:30am
Thursday, July 31st – 8am, 10:30am
Friday, August 1st – 8am, 10:30am, 2pm
Saturday, August 2nd – 10:30am Championship
Volunteers are needed for set-up on Monday night, July, 28th. Beginning Sunday, July 27th, we will need volunteers at the hospitality area at the team hotel.
For games, we need volunteers to be base umpires and base operators. No previous experience is required as both jobs are relatively simple to learn.
If you would like to volunteer for this wonderful event, please email me back and indicate which days and times you are available (we need volunteers from 8am in the morning until 10pm almost every day, so please indicate your available hours). If you have a preference for a certain volunteer task, please indicate that as well. It’s a GREAT cause and will be a lot of fun, so please let me know if you are interested in serving in this way. As always, all volunteers who work an 8 hour shift will receive free Astros tickets!!
