Once again, we visit the not-so-little town of Denton to see what the denizens are up to. You can't make this stuff up.
Blotter: Officer takes sword cane-wielding man to jail
08:46 AM CDT on Friday, August 29, 2008 By Donna Fielder / Staff Writer
An officer watched a man walking in the 3700 block of Interstate 35 unsheathe a sword and begin waving it at two dogs Wednesday afternoon.
The officer reported the man was walking down a sidewalk carrying a cane about 1 p.m. Two dogs nearby started barking at him, and he pulled on the handle of the cane. It was attached to a long sword concealed inside the cane, and he began walking toward the dogs while waving the cane, the officer noted.
The officer stopped the man and told him to drop the cane on the ground. The man did not comply at first; instead, he faced the officer with the sword raised. He eventually put the sword on the ground and sat on the sidewalk.
He told the officer he had bought the sword only an hour before at a local store, and he was just trying it out.
The dogs’ owner said he was traveling on the interstate and stopped to let his dogs out for a moment, when he saw the armed man approaching him.
The officer took the man to jail on a charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon.

This may explain the success of North Texas Division fencers. For most of us it is a competitive sport or recreational endeavor...
for them, fencing is a self-defense course. You never know when you'll be attacked by someone with a sword!
