I believe that is also the date for SSCC #3 (Gulf Coast). Another combined RYC/SSCC?

So I see the Gulf Coast SSCC/RYC happened. Lots of results on FRED... lots of results imaging 2 days and the space used.
How'd it go?

Gold Stars: Excellent turnout of competition
good referees (by and large)
Demerits: Way, way, way too crowded in the venue
Adult events first thing in the morning with Y-10/12 events running until 8PM at night (why wasn't this reversed?)
Some referees looking like zombies by the end (glad we don't have right of way calls in epee)

We enjoyed the competition very much. ... and learned about T.61. "The épée is a thrusting weapon only. Attacks with this weapon are therefore made with the point, and with the point only. Pushing or letting the point of the electric weapon drag on the electric strip is forbidden during the actual bout (between "Fence" and "Halt"). Placing the point of the weapon on the strip at any time to straighten it is also forbidden. Any breaking of this rule will be penalized according to Articles t.114, t.116, t.120."

First, I want to commend Davis for separating the youth women and men where enough girl fencers were present. It gave the girls alot of practice against each other. We asked and he came through for us. Also, I'm always amazed that things go as well as they do in light of the number of competitors, parents, coaches, etc. on the youth side--and all this with hoards of non-RYC giants roaming around for the SSCC. I do have one suggestion though. A lot of the youth fencers compete with more than one weapon--then eventually choose a main weapon and concentrate on it I think that this should be considered when scheduling all RYCs so that there is time between events. last May, my daughter finished her Y10 mixed foil pool and was called to the other side to fence four straight Y10 mixed epee bouts (after switching cords, weapons, putting on a lame, etc.). She finished those and returned to epee, after switching back, and ended up fencing both epee and foil DE rounds simultaneously. This year, we decided to at least finish one weapon before switching over, so we finished epee with a hard won victory in the finals then dressed for foil and went over and did four straight foil pool bouts. She had a deep gash/bruise on her thigh and was basically worn out, so we let her pull out of DEs, even though she was ranked 4th of 17 out of pools. She only does foil for fun, but when the schedule is this close it isn't much fun. Everything else at Bayou was great as usual--I just wish the schedule could consider the dual fencers.
