So with all the changes headed for foil in the next 2-3 years, will we be changing to an entirely different blade, or just run 2 wires down existing foils to what amounts to a variation on an epee tip?

Who knows? They rationalize everything and anything. I suspect they'll stay "pure" by keeping the single wire. It will evolve a new style in tactics, I think. A good remise will be as good as a "piont and stab".

I think, I for one, will like the changes. They will reduce the use of big, wind-up flicks that nail your vertebrae (or the back of your skull). The shorter lockout window means attacks into the preparation have a real chance.
The increased pressure for the tip and the longer debounce time means the hit will not be the fleeting, barely-touched hits of today, but a pronounced, direct touch.
If anything, it takes foil back about 15-20 years.
Maybe I won't go to epee-only, after all.

I, too, like the new changes, but I'm not for getting rid of the "off-target". What I want to know is what's to be done with all the thousands of "old style" foil tips? Will we have to take them off and toss them at some set date?

What I want to know is what's to be done with all the thousands of "old style" foil tips? Geezer, the answer is quite simple and straightforward. Assuming, that is, that this change does come to pass for general use (which is very much in doubt considering the trial with world-level junior competition is not exactly proceeding yet). You remove your old points, and rewire with new points. Then, you store your old foil points wherever you store your capteurs, your pre-S2000 saber blades, and fully-conductive saber gloves.

Geezer, I have an even better answer, and even more simple and straightforward. Assuming we ever get the new points in, you remove your old points, and rewire with the new points. Then, you put your old points in the recycle bin with the old tuna and chili cans. Otherwise, you can rent another storage room and pay rental on it forever! Then your heirs can throw them away or recycle them when you are gone... or try to sell them as "antiques" on e-bay! ;D Kyle

Yes, I know it's true. But, we could keep them and start a just "classical" fencing event, one where Off-target, true Right-of-way, and Threat-to-target attacks would still be recognized. This , of course, is why I like Epee, "I got your stinkin' Right-of-Way right here!" non iligitimi carborundum

For now, given some issues to be ironed out with the "mangiarotti tip" the main thing they will be testing this coming season in the World CUps is the 750 grams weight requirement for foil.
I'd rather they added the time changes as well.
