The attached message was sent out to many area fencing clubs. Please spread the word that there will be a fun girl's tournament this weekend---Y10-Y14 Epee & Saber on Saturday @ Katy Blades--and Y10-Y14 Foil on Sunday @ Salle Mauro. This is a great event for novice fencers to get their feet wet without any of the six foot boys they'll see in mixed. Its also a good one to schedule if you aren't able to make the trip to El Paso next weekend for the RYC. Thanks in advance for your support.
Fencing Coaches: We would be very grateful if you would please forward this to your girl fencers and/or post or read to your students.
CALLING ALL GIRL FENCERS!!!!
Y10, Y12, AND Y14---- EPEE, FOIL, AND SABER
After constant calls over the years for more all-girl fun tournaments to offset the numerous mixed events, as well as provide practice for some girls to prepare for National Events----we set up the Gulf Coast Girl's Fencing Association as a vehicle to hold up to three all-girl tournaments per year.
Our plan is to hold fun, safe, informal tournaments so that casual girl fencers, as well as those on a competitive track, can come together and have fun.
OUR FIRST SUCH TOURNAMENT IS THIS SATURDAY AND SUNDAY!!!
Epee and Saber are first on Saturday at Katy Blades--then foil follows on Sunday at Salle Mauro (check Fred for times)
If you aren't going to the RYC in El Paso, this would be a great event to substitute!
Tournaments are tons of hard work and we're very fortunate to have both of these great clubs step forward and offer their facilities, expertise and effort for this cause--But, if there is no support from our section's girl fencers, then it will be very hard to justify going forward with up to three tournaments in the next year.
So, please show your support and come join us for a fun, competitive tournament!!!
Thanks,
Gulf Coast Girls Fencing Association
