There I was searching the US Patent Search site for nemo's "duck sword" (and, to my horror, finding it). While there I figured to see what the patent office held for fencing. What did I see?

Hummmm...an idea devised soley to benefit the invested interests of a manufacturer. ( ...with sarcasm... ) What Need is there to be placated? What Rationale justifies an act who's spirit is seemingly 'more redundant' than "guilding of the lilly"? Will it work when covered with vomit?

This idea is just so wrong on so many levels. Epee is epee because it is simple. No ROW. No lame'. Just simple hit, don't get hit... anywhere.
People like this inventor just encourage the excesses of Rene R!

(Oh, and since we are now on the technical side of the conversation, I have moved this to the armory board).

These are for the reel-less system that SG is devising. They need the conductive pants for the system. One of the reasons is the fact that the FIE has mandated that you can't use RF for a "wireless" system.

Until May of this year, this was the only way they were going to be able to go Reelless. The FIE put the cart in front of the cart. The company that has exclusive rights to wireless machines for FIE competitions started using Bluetooth transmissions for their machines which was illegal according to the rules, but the larger competitions were required to use them. If they didn't do that there was no way going by the rules be able to set up the block time in Epee without a full-body lame'. While the FIE kept on telling the rest of the companies that could not use over the air transmissions one favored company was allowed to.
