I read your "press release" piece. While it makes a certain amount of sense, I am doubtful as to how much of a difference it would actually make in media coverage, in the long run. We will never receive the coverage of football and basketball.
As to that whole bit about the "full-court press" after the tournament, there are still so many clubs who never get around to even posting results on FRED (with which they are already familiar), do you really think after the fencing is done anyone is going to type up 12 different releases to a bunch of local papers (allowing they probably don't even have a decent contact there)?

DM, I certainly by no means guarantee this will make a tremendous difference. I will say that I know from past experience that it will make some difference.
Almost every time we have had some mention of fencing in our area (and I am talking about Galveston and Clear Lake) we have picked up a fencer or two. That was my only point.
Please also note that there is no way to predict how well this will work since this has not been tried in this division in the last 25 years. I does, however, seem like precious little work. The key is to make it a habit for every club involved after every tournament. Do it for a year and then we will have the data to see if there was any change.
Then, too, I would be in favor of the GCD EC paying someone to do this. Just a tiny, insulting stipend, say $50.00 each month to mass produce these things and email them to the media.
We do not even have to be creative. There are press release "style sheets" out there... for free.

I get the feeling I am missing something, like context.

Heck, I'll do it for free. Press releases for the Division that is.
