Eric Dew posted the following on Fencing.Net. Just curious if it seems workable to the more knowledgeable of our readers...

No idea, but I'll test it tonight at practice.

Don't know if it would work or not, but if it did, wouldn't it be caught when the fencers test the masks before the bout?

Oops, slipped my mind last night. If you're one of those fencers who never tests at the same time as your opponent, it wouldn't be caught for some time.
Also, it'd only work when the the cheater hit first so it could easily be explained as the other action being locked out.

There's an easy way to see if it'll work without taking apart your bodycord. Ground yourself out on your lame then test it out. (At least I'd think it would work. It's all the same wires.)

And have you considered what happens when your opponents blade touches your blade that has been grounded to your lame....

It is not a Sabre Cheating system. It actually started during the switchover between Sensor and Grounded Sabre systems. Many fencers had the old style guards with the BnC connectors for the sensors and they did not have a permanent ground. A cheap and easy way of grounding out the B-C circuit was to wrap wire at the back of the body cord. Thus you didn't need to ground out your weapon permanently. Some places had not upgraded and still used the sensors, so this was a way to be able to fence with both types of machines. You took off the wire when you fenced with Sensors and put in on with the upgraded boxes.
