I chanced by the USFA site, for the first time in 4-5 months, and saw (to my utter amazement) that they now had on line memberships!
I believe this carries the USFA up to about 1997?
Anyway, my query, how many of the members here used the on line membership sign-up and how did it go?

I gave it a try late last July. I got my membership card and Nicole's about 5 days later.
No problems on my end. According to the USFA website, they showed us both as a paid up members in good standing from day one (August 1st).

We used it to renew our daughter's membership. It went well enough. The updates to the USFA member list is slow. We had the official USFA receipt to bring to a tournament (had not received the card yet) and this caused a problem at the Cougar. Her name was not on the USFA site yet (took two weeks and an e-mail for this) and Matt didn't like the receipt USFA prints for you since it does not list your club affiliation.
So, the process on the USFA end is simple enough but isn't updated quickly enough and Gulf Coast doesn't like the receipt. She loves the new key ring card and plastic card as they don't get torn up and are easier to keep up with on a key ring.
Just my thoughts.

I'm boycotting it on the basis I don't pay others to do things that are cheaper and more convenient for them.

I agree with Dan.

I as well. A 50 cent, or even $1 user fee is one thing (and roughly equal to the stamp or fax to get it the national office). A $5 user fee is ridiculous.

A $5 user fee is ridiculous. Heartless miser. You'd deny them their graft and kickbacks? You should be ashamed...

Well, we decided the $5 was worth not having to hassle with it at the start of the tournament and we had been lax to send it in earlier. Alas, it turned out to be as big a pain as it always has been and the online saved us no time at the tournament. So we probably wouldn't pay the $5 again.
