from my email...
I’m the author of The Devil’s Sword, a new thriller in which teen fencers are the heroes and fencing is portrayed in an extremely positive light. The first two chapters of the book are excerpted in the current issue of American Fencing magazine. Feedback from fencers, non-fencers, kids, and adults alike has been glowing (e.g., “Thrilling. A great read!” –Sada Jacobson).
I’m writing to ask if you could help spread the word about this book to your members and students, ages nine to adult (verbally would be great, or perhaps via e-mail, newsletter, posting the excerpt from American Fencing in your club, etc.). Why?
1) Feedback from fencers couldn’t be more positive. I believe your members/students will love reading a thriller that centers on a fencing tournament, and will appreciate that you brought it to their attention.
2) My previous books are emerging onto the national stage, and The Devil’s Sword could well attain bestseller status. This would raise fencing’s profile and drive considerable growth in the sport. I’m confident fencers around the country will thoroughly enjoy the book and enthusiastically spread the word to their non-fencing friends, which will help in this regard. [Just as an FYI, my publisher is also working with a New York publicist, Smith Publicity, who is focusing on the non-fencing world].
