I see that the results are posted, but listed as another NR tournament in all events. Were ratings awarded that were earned, (Congrats Kevin)? This tournament began when the U of H students asked Mauro and myself to host a tournament Labor Day several years ago, and if this gets reduced to a Non-USFA Tournament then that will be a shame on the division. It was well facilitated, slowly run, but everything went well from what the students did. Their efforts should not be belittled by not giving it the USFA credit it deserves.

I have looked at many resuts from various tournaments around Texas. Many list their results as NR. I would first look to see if the person responsible for entering the results knows to (or knows how to) enter the appropriate rating on FRED, which is, after all, not a USFA program.
A young acquaintance of mine recently fenced in a tournament. The results on FRED show it as "NR" but he still received his E2010.

Aldo, indeed.
I paused to check CLFC's own tournament from last month (CLUE) and realized we had neglected to update the results earned and ratings of each event.
I apologize to those who look to FRED for confirmation of results earned at our event. That said, what I enter on FRED has absolutley NO effect on the USFA's recognition of ratings of events or those earned by successful fencers. What matters are the results submitted by the division.

Why do so many people think FRED = USFA?

They aren't paying attention.

They aren't paying attention. Then the noisiest are not paying attention.

I just overheard discussions in the bout committee table that they were not going to sanction the tournament. I had several interested parents ask me and I told them to go to the source. Kathy was not there so it was not going very quickly, and I did not want to slow down the event. I told the parents to ask themselves and they emailed me and still did not have a clear answer.
I usually go outside the division to focus on my personal ratings, but it is important to many of the fencers as a self-evaluation if nothing else. I have seen enough of these situations where it remains just another of the issues.
I will say that when KB is involved this is very clear except when there are factors she is not aware of.

I just overheard discussions in the bout committee table that they were not going to sanction the tournament. I was aware of the same things being said. Shortly thereafter, since the Gulf Coast Chair, Louise Lepie, was away and could not be reached, Nicole (acting as vice chair) called for a meeting. She, Kathy and Matt met on a Wednesday night. At the end of the meeting they ensured that every requirement necessary for the Cougar Call to Arms to be able to award letter classifications had been met.

I have seen enough of these situations where it remains just another of the issues. I will say that when KB is involved this is very clear except when there are factors she is not aware of. It's a little awkward right now; either I am a B, in which case I really should not register for the ROC Div II qualifiers for SN but the Gobbler's Mixed Epee this coming weekend is a B1 event, or I am not, so I can, but it's not. I have also asked for some clarification, and I'm sure it will be along real soon now. I think I'm a B, so I think I should not register for the ROC and I think that the GR will eventually give awards based on it being a B1 if everyone shows up who have registered, but it's not an ideal situation. And it's possible that the CCTA will not be sanctioned, I guess, which means I've missed a chance to fence Div II for what will be the last time for a while, anyway. Oy. An all these rules are in place so... two particular clubs we know won't have events on top of each other? Huh, how's that working out? K O'N

They aren't paying attention. Then the noisiest are not paying attention. sigh. Unfortunately, people don't read the fine print on FRED-that even if it says a person is such and such rating, it is not official unless the USA Fencing site says they are. Heck, I could go in and make myself an A10 in each weapon, but it would only A) Make me look like an idiot and B) not hold up when I went to sign in at a tournament. As in the case of the sanction/not sanctioning of the CCA, it looks like in this case the forces of light have triumphed. I will say: it was just biz as usual in the GCD. Thanks to Nicole for calling the meeting to get it straightened out. And congrats on the "B" Kevin.

It was good that they go it straightened out. We did not know that it was or was not an issue from Saturday until Wednesday, and if it was not sanctioned we would not have been notified. That would make things a bit confusing, (see Kevin above).
I am glad they got it worked out. I reckon being a noisy wheel brought this to light.

I am glad they got it worked out. I reckon being a noisy wheel brought this to light. Actually they fixed it back on the 10th, a good five days before your post, so that things would be smooth in time for the Blackbeard Memorial on the 13th. They just didn't make a big deal about fixing it.
