Should members of the executive committee of our division be members of the USFA?

Oh, yes. If you don't fence...Beat it! No want 'a be's, no "stage parents", no: "I'll keep the books while you fence." If you fence, you belong to the USFA, (meaning they own us). So, I don't want ANY nonfencer administering ANYTHING that pertains to my fencing life.

Actually, I DID check our membership rolls on the rogue site. I found a result that was funny and sad at the same time. I'll be generous and presume a check is in the mail.

There are four officers for our division. Four names. A pretty current membership list (I think he updated around the time of Heavy Metal or the Katy Blades tourney) is here: clfc.2itb.com/custom3.htmlCheck for four names. Are there any you can't find on the alphabetized list of Gulf Coast Division members of the USFA?

Last year I registered for the USFA 5 times before they caught on. I'm not going to lose any sleep about membership lists at this point in the season. If I were going to be concerned about such things, I'd probably just take it to the individual in question instead of skulking around and being snide about it.

Indeed. My notice was intended as a whimsical cautionary tale (as well as ploy to get folks to re-examine a list and perhaps notice, "Hey, where's MY name?"
Just because someone is a coach, club owner or division officer is NO reason to PRESUME one's paperwork went through. Just two weeks ago a friend of mine finally got his card and he signed up at Heavy Metal.
A caution. Check the list. If you don't have your card and your name is not on that list, start tracking it down. Some tournaments are getting hardcore about presenting your card.

Fair enough.
As a farther caution to people running tournaments -- last I checked, your USFA insurence only covers you when all participants in a tournament are USFA members. You also need all participants to be members if you want to give ratings. Everyone should be hardcore about checking memberships at the door.

Point very well made. A cautionary note for us all.

As a codacil to my post, it turns out the wayward officer thought he was still under a 3-year membership. The notice that it expired had not kept up with his address changes.
As often as many of us move, we should remember not to take for granted that the USFA will always find us. The onus is on each of us to be aware of our own status.

I ran into this issue as well. I was not listed on the official site, but was listed on the 'rouge' site. I e-mailed Andrew and he was curtious and prompt in taking care of it. I too think its a good idea to check the site to make sure you are listed.

I'm so glad I became a Life Member. Really saves me from having to worry over such issues. Now I only worry about getting an updated rating card. And, I let the USFA know whenever I have moved in the past (just add them to the list of important entities to notify - like credit cards, etc). With email, it's really simple.
Btw, non-fencers can also be members of the USFA, as many parents can tell you. Why do you think Mauro has such a big voting block? Although I wonder if he realizes that under-18 fencers won't be able to vote.
