A lot of folks I know are talking about the upcoming elections and kicking around ideas. One, whom I'll leave as anonymous wrote,
[glow=red,2,300]Perhaps there should be a thread on the Division discussion forum to the effect of "Please fill in the blanks in the following statement: I (or the person with my proxy) intend to nominate _________ for the Office of ___________." But, how do you bring the thread to anybody's attention in a decorous manner? [/glow]
How? By letting ME do it for YOU anonymously... ;D
Now for the $64,000.00 question:
How would each of us fill in the blanks?

Lemme take a shot at this.
Chair -- John Trojanowski (loves local fencing) Vice Chair -- Sinclair Oubre (priest) Treasurer -- Bille Trapani (cop) Secretary -- Louise Lepie (NICE space, keep her happy, she lets a lot of us play there).

I would never nominate Louise Lepie for any position!! She's bad news. Augie is one of the sweetest and most Godly men I have ever met, plus Louise over charges people for everything and the only reason why she has free fencing is so people will buy from her shop. The article she had in the USFA mag made me laugh! There are so many great people to choose from, but she is NOT one of them. Here are the people I would vote for. ;D Chair: August Skopik Vice Chair: John Trojanowski Secretary: Suzanne Simpson Treasurer: Matt Delevoryas

I think Geva has done an alright job as chair. He's fair and loves the game.
Matt D. is pretty solid himself as Secretary
John Troj......He loves the game as well and I strongly feel would do well at position he was elected to
Marty Wysocki, one of the most honest and respected guys in the Gulf Coast. Elect this man to a position

I very much agree with the last proposed slate for officers, Andrey, John, Marty, Mat. They are all outstanding, honest and dedicated people to the sport of fencing. However, just to lighten up a bit, let's imagine a parallel universe, sort of like the anti-matter in physics, where the positive becomes negative, the truth is replaced by lies, reality by phantasy, real Olympic participation by pseudo participation... you get the drift ... In this pseudo universe of fencing this would be a top choice slate for candidates to become officers of the Gulf Coast TX Division for 2004-5: Maher "Mauro" Hamza, Chairman Dennis Koslowski, Vice Chair Andy Fastow, Treasurer Martha Stewart, Secretary

I'm not deep in local club/division politics. Heck, I'm just a recreational fencer, but let me give this a whirl. But I've met a few of these folks in the last year.
Chair - Marty Wysocki (seems to be able to see past club rivalries)
Vice-Chair - Brad Goldie (straight-talker, honest)
Secretary - Matt Delevoryas (I listened to him once two months ago and I'm STILL trying to dissect everything he said)
Treasurer - Nicole Trojanowski (give her hubby a break, but keep it in the family, besides she has a good sense of humor... someone needs to lighten this bunch up!)

Well, I've noticed a trend from only 10 data points, which seems only to indicate that the Forum Watchers have favorites. They are all worthy and acceptable. What we need are real voters at the meeting to make sure we spread good karma. So, let's work on that. ;D

How about this bunch?
Chair - Jerry Dunaway (he ran against Mauro a few years back, so he had an interest once and he works almost exclusively with young fencers, our backbone)
Vice-Chair - John Trojanowski (he had the spot last year and he and Dunaway get along)
Secretary - Jeremy Cooper (Ivanhoe here, D'Artagnan on Fencing Net, good communication skills and SOMEBODY FROM OUTSIDE HOUSTON should be an officer)
Treasurer - Grace Haberzettle (similar thoughts as with Jeremy, for the non-Houston representation).

Grace is a member of ATAC & fences in South Texas Division Qualifiers; therefore, she is ineligible to run for Gulf Coast office.
Chairman - Mark Carlton or Marty Wysocki (neither is a competitive fencer, a coach or own a club) Vice Chairman - August Skopik (he can give good advice to the chairman) Sectretary - Matt Delevoryas (he's wordy & tries to be exact) Treasurer - John Trojanowski (he's still trying to sort out the mess the division is in w/ the USFA)

Guys and Gals:
Can we all agree on one simple requirement for the officers of the division. Ask them to abide by the motto of the Air force Academy which someone posted somewhere recently and enforce it during their tenure:
"THE OFFICER SHALL NOT LIE, CHEAT OR STEAL, NOR TOLERATE ANYONE WHO DOES!"
In view of what has come out recently (Hamza's documented lies, his behavior, and that of his enablers), this simple criterion which works for the Academy and is being enforced there, should help us here and benefit the division.

Sorry, Fence4Rice is correct. I am an active member of ATAC out of San Marcos (South Texas Division). I am also a sponsor, coach, and member of Coastal Bend Fencing Society, which is located in Robstown, which is a few blocks west of highway 77 (South Texas Division). So, I am not qualified to take such a position with the Gulf Coast Division. However, I am pleased that my name was even considered. You never know what the future might bring... if I ever find larger, cheaper property in Corpus, I might just cross 77 and join you. I know that more people in Corpus would probably be interested in fencing if they did not have to travel to Robstown. Good luck chosing your future leaders. I know you have a lot of really fine people to chose from. Personally I highly respect John Trojanowski, Augie Skopik, and Matt Delevoryas. I do not know many of the others, so I can not say anything one way or the other.

I'd thought the current officers are doing a pretty good job -- is there really a need to change them? Mark Carlton is capable of thinking for himself and is passionate about the sport -- why shouldn't he serve if so inclined and gets the votes? And that oath hasn't really worked that well for the academies -- reference past cheating, harassment, and rape scandals.
Maybe we just need people to show up at the meeting and vote their conscience.

You obviously are out of touch. The current crew of Delevoryous (sorry I mis-spelled this Matt), Trjanowski and Geva are doing a great job. The problem is they have to deal with the abortion of a job the past two administrations have done, and there is till some baggage on board from those dark ages(the years Hamza was in charge). There are a lot of problems including, financial and awarding of tournaments that were brought to light at the last open division meeting (during the katy Blades).
Trojanowski and Matt D have my votes. These are solid people. I don't know if Geva will run again, but he is committed to a solid and fair division.

Secretary - Jeremy Cooper (Ivanhoe here, D'Artagnan on Fencing Net, good communication skills and SOMEBODY FROM OUTSIDE HOUSTON should be an officer) I appreciate the recommendation. However, I think that Matt will make a fine secretary. His mind and personality are ideal for the job.

OK, looks like we have Geva formally running for Chair. Matt has officially thrown his hat in the ring for a position - preferably Secretary, but would gladly serve in whatever position the Division Members see fit. While John issued his willingness to serve as Chair (& then removed it), the Division would be best served if he remained in his current position as Treasurer. The only position not spoken for is Vice Chair.
While I appreciate the vote of confidence by several people, I do not think I would be the best person for a Division office at this time. I feel that I could be more effective serving on a newly created Board (vote FOR Proposition 15).

Personally, I think that Andrey Geva has done an excellent job this year, especially considering the mess the previous leader had made. Andrey is on the right track, and I really hope that he will be able to continue the job that he has begun. He truly wants the best for the division, and loves the sport of fencing. He's fair and honest. My child has had Andrey for a coach for more than four years. We had to work with both BCFA and Salle Mauro, and I can truly say that since Andrey has been on his own, he has been a pleasure to work with. Much easier than either of the other two club owners. As division chair, he has greatly increased the communication in the division. He is very professional, and represents the division well.
