Before you think you read this last March, you didn't. It's analogous, but it's brand new.
The Bylaws of the Gulf Coast Division require that there be a meeting of the membership of the Division held on the occasion of the first tournament of the schedule for the fencing year. Nobody in the administration of the Division has yet announced such a meeting, but it is quite reasonable to assume that there will be a meeting called for the morning of Saturday, August 28th, at the Gilruth Center, at JSC, in Houston. This is the date and place of the FĂȘte de Lune, which almost certainly will turn out to be the first tournament on the schedule.
The Bylaws require that the meeting be held for purposes involving the mention of money. But, it is perfectly legal for the meeting to include such other business as might be named in the call of the meeting -- including amending the Bylaws. This is by no means the only possibility in the rest of 2004 to amend the Bylaws, but I hate to see a good opportunity go to waste while there are a few remaining loose ends in the Bylaws.
Back in April, the proposed (and adopted) changes were almost entirely "loose ends, conflicts, and anachronisms ... causing some pain". This time around, the changes being considered are more of the nature of true, albeit small, changes.
I expect each different possible change will cause a different group of people to scream at me to tell me I'm an idiot for a different reason, I am not going to mention the proposals in this thread. I'll spread them out into individual threads, with one proposal or one logical group of proposals per thread.
As in March, you can use this thread to scream at me to tell me I'm an idiot in general. Use the other individual threads to tell me specifically how I'm an idiot, proposal by proposal.
Note: These proposals are being presented by Matt Delevoryas, individual member of the Division. I do not speak for the Executive Committee when I present them.
